I must admit I am surprised at this one.
I lived in Dallas and voted for Ann Richards when she won, which was only due to Clayton Williams huge gaffe the week before the election.

Several bad candidates lost winnable seats, but a lot of good candidates went down in flames too.
Democrats were very fired up and Republicans weren't and Independents broke for Democrats extremely hard.
