I would need to have it broken down for me to better understand. That being said, wouldn't this be inflationary? Also, people are shitty with their money. Someone blows it all on the lottery and then the woe is me crap starts and they need the government to bail them out

I'd take that in a New York second.

Just give me everything I've paid in up to this point and let me invest future contributions how I see fit and I'll take it no questions asked.

That might be the absolute dumbest idea I’ve ever heard. Inflation would be 5,000% in one year.

Jesus, what a tard

Or, and I’m just spitballing, make everyone take a vaccine that will kill them before they receive social security.

I’m 61.5 now, do I need it? No but, I have paid a ton into that program so it would work for me if they would reduce the Medicare age requirement back down to 62.

You can’t buy insurance plans to cover what Medicare covers in addition to your supplement plan.

I'm 55 and I'll take it. My home is paid for and I was retiring by 60 anyway.

At 48 I’d take that deal. At 8% that should be over a million in 20 years. Add in the wife, that’s 2 mil.

I don't know. The thing about SS is they intend for a good number of people to pay in and die before reaching retirement age.

No one is taking the social security buyout idea seriously because they understand SS has nothing to do with the sots you'd have SS buyout. SS is a loan extracted from those sots by the Feds, and paid back on pathetic terms to the used sots.

I filed at 62, first Social Security deposit is due in two weeks. Late December I heard of some changes with VA health that got me curious. Short version, wife and I both qualified and are now in group 5, card in wallet. That was a huge relief as I had signed up for that ridiculous obamacare crap was able to cancel 2 days before it was to start, thank God. Neither of us need any immediate care, it's just a relief to have it if needed, especially ER and hospital care. That $250k would work for me fo sho. Our biggest expense annually is property tax, home is paid off.

The ones that were making more than 200 grand a year are going to say no. There’s probably a lot of those people.

That is a terrible deal compared to what Social Security pays. It is worse than if Social Security reduced its payout be 50% (unlikely if they stick to the law).

quote:

it’ll reduce the deficit by $5T over a decade.

Keep in mind, Social Security does not contribute to the deficit. Social Security has operated with a surplus up until very recently and the Federal Gov has never borrowed to fund it unless it was many years ago in the beginning of the program.

I do not like the SS program and I think it is a bad deal for a massive amount of people, including myself, but for most people the present value of SS over their lifetime is way more than $250K, meaning it can't replace the income.
