What's up with the $15/hr mark. That seems like such an arbitrary number that folks are really making a big deal over. Why not set minimum wage at $25. Why settle for only $15.

Better yet, let's go big or go home. If you can't afford to pay all of your employees a 6 figure income, you shouldn't own a business.

I think even Trump deserves it, despite plainly low energy, ability, and productivity.

I have not seriously thought about it and am not an economist. That said, like many national programs, this one will be too little in some places and too much in others. I don’t necessarily fully trust the market to set wages well, but I also don’t think that sudden increases every ten years or so are a particularly good idea.

It likely will hasten the exodus from rural areas.

Overall economically, it won’t make much difference in prosperous areas. Marginal businesses in poor areas will suffer. On balance, nationwide, I doubt it moves the needle much.

That’s my lay take.

Bet these guys didn’t take Economics 101 in their worthless “studies” degree. Get ready for sky high unemployment for the common man and inflation. It is coming!

15 won't be sufficient for very long. Democrats think you should be able to live in a 2,500 sq ft house and raise 3 kids comfortably on your salary from Wendy's. They also think that Wendy's shouldn't be able to sell anything over the price of $2.

Inflation for sure. But pumping another 2 trillion into the money supply will likely do that anyway.

Well, you're acting as if one doesn't matter because of the other. One exacerbates the other.

You think small businesses on average can just handle the minimum wage doubling? Please explain.

Some can, some can’t. I think it’s pretty much that simple.

Ultimately it will push marginal employers toward undocumented workers.

You think that’s a big change?

I will be investing in companies that produce industrial automation, and robotics equipment , and also upgrade my home security to deal with the increase in crime that will accompany the big rise in unemployment.

remember, “undocumented workers” doesn’t just mean Hispanics. White and black work under the table in cash jobs too.

If increased labor cost kills a small business, then that business either has no pricing power or is struggling already, very likely.
