Franklin BBQ update (pics) and La Barbecue

As promised, here are some updated pics from my 1.5 hour waiting in line at Franklin (2 hours total from getting in line to eating). See original thread if interested. Here
This is where I was in line. You can see the line out into the parking lot (heat/sun) if you get there too late (9:45). Notice how the shade ends at the corner of the building. You do not want to be waiting past this corner.
At 11:10 I am inside the door. Notice all the empty seats as the first people in line are just now ordering and sitting down.
Menu
At 11:20 I am about to order. They cut to order. Notice the free sample of brisket they present on the left.
I almost forgot to take a pic of my plate till I ate about 1/2 of it, but this is the other half. Notice the outstanding bark.
My receipt timed 11:24. I got a lot to go.
On to La Barbecue the next day. This place is awesome- I'd say equal to Franklin. Basically a food truck but the pits are next to the booth outside. Also live band playing. Picnic benches under tents to eat. Free beer from a keg. Notice the keg and the pits behind in on the right.
This was the line when I got there at 12:30. About 10-15 min wait to order.
Menu
Look at this brisket sandwich. Simply awesome. Ordered the beef rib and some brisket as well. Decadent to say the least.
All in all an excellent trip to Austin.

Well done. I'm a Franklin fan but need to try that brisket sandwich at LaBarbecue. Looks great and I've heard good things about it.

That does it: I'm headed to the ATX for a BBQ vacation asap.

I live a few miles from both... it's ridiculous.
My rule is brisket at Franklin & beef rib at La BBQ.
Beef rib at Opie's in Spicewood is king, but that's an hour west of Austin or so.

shite, everybody and their grandmother talks about how awesome Austin is. And, apparently, everybody and their grandmother is moving here.
Now, the food scene is starting to make some serious waves, so that could be the last piece in the puzzle in regards to what could've been "underrated" here...

Hmmm, here's someone else who rates Austin as "overrated"... number 1 overrated as a matter of fact.
Oh, wait, he sez visit Houston instead.
Yeah, um... no.

Houston is probably underrated
Definitely a top 10 metro area for dining in the U.S. Probably closer to #6 or so

Dude, the place is happenin... I went to a place called Lenoir for dinner after lunch at Franklin. Lenoir has some really great food- small plate, NY style- serious but unpretentious. About 15-20 people max. Chef/owner type place. Apparently really good reputation and I can see why.

...you have a work meeting on Sunday night...
Also, that brisket looks ridiculous, but I don't know if I could make myself wait in line for 2 hours for it. Maybe in the fall.

I don't work a 9-5 so it's not like I'm going in on my day off. And they are feeding me Franklin and giving me beer, I don't really have any complaints.

I'm with you. I'm not standing in line for 2 hours to eat BarBQ.
Posted on 6/9/13 at 6:15 pm to tewino
Looks yum but there's no way I'd wait in that line for BBQ
