I don't get the cheap rifle and high dollar scope idea.

Most any rifle on the market will shoot accurately enough to kill the game that most people are hunting. A cheap scope can cause the hunter to leave the stand early or pass on a shot because he can't make out details.

I would much rather a cheap Savage with a Swarovski scope than a custom Jarret with a Tasco.

Obviously the preferable option is to buy high quality for both. However not everyone can afford that plan.

Yeaaaaa but most any scope $200 and up will be good enough in legal shooting hours.

I know the merits of the nicer scopes, but I don't think you need to spend over $300 to get a very good one.

Tikka T3 $599
Meopta Meopro 3.5x10x44 $399

That would be a really good combo.. Also...

T/C Venture is less than $500
Vortex Diamondback is $540

They are all accurate enough to kill a deer inside 200 yards, so the gun is less important right now. Chances are though that if you buy that gun it's going to stay in the family longer than the optics

Gunbroker has any number of used scopes for sale, which could be a good way to get into a more expensive scope for less money.

Zeiss for example

I'm getting away from Nikon buckmaster. It doesn't have near the amount of light collection that I would like.

A 120gr 257 weatherby round is only 300fps faster than a 120gr 6.5 creedmoor round. And the 257 drops 24" at 500. The 6.5 drops 27" at 1000 yards. This is according to online ballistics so it may be a little off. But according to those ballistics, I would use the 257 weatherby mag for closer shots and the 6.5 creedmoor for farther shots as I stated previously.

Tikka t3 hunter .270 $700

Leopold vx2

Eta- I don't like synthetic stocks, that's why I'd go with the t3 hunter. But you could save $100 with synthetic.

Disagree. Picked one up as a backup rifle last month and was very impressed with its accuracy. It's nit gonna win any beauty contests but for the price, I think it's a great rifle.

this is completely wrong

a 6.5 creedmoor drops 38 inches at 500 yes when sighted in at 200 yds.

a .257 wby is a .300 hh magnum necked down to .257. it's a huge case
the 6.5 creamer is a .308 case necked down.

ETA: If two bullets weight the same but one is traveling faster how could the faster one drop faster?
