PR Newswire PR NewswireFebruary 2, 2017
AUSTIN, Texas, Feb. 2, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- YETI®, the leading premium cooler and drinkware brand, is pleased to announce that a binding settlement has been reached in the United States District Court lawsuits brought against RTIC Coolers and brothers John and Jim Jacobsen.

RTIC Coolers and the Jacobsens are required to make a financial payment to YETI; to cease sales of all products subject to the lawsuit – this includes hard-sided coolers, soft-sided coolers and drinkware; and to redesign all products in question.

YETI CEO Matt Reintjes stated, "We are extremely pleased with the results we have achieved. We will continue to defend our innovation and intellectual property. This is a true win."
Further details will be shared as they become available. YETI is not available for further comment on this topic at this point.

I hope they don't come after Ozark Trail cups.

I bought a 65 and a softpak 30 due to the sale. I guess I'll pick up a 45 while the price is right.

I'll be curious to see what the "redesign" looks like.

Looks like I should have patented that plastic box I invented.

Didn't RTIC come out with the square style soft cooler first? I remember seeing it a while back and thinking it was a better idea then the Yeti's vagina of death.

The Ozark 20 oz are legit - as good a $8 purchase there is. I got a 30 oz RTIC when they were on sale for $12 on Amazon - that was during the Ozark rush and you couldn't find them anywhere.

I just ordered 4 10 oz from the RTIC store - as much curiosity to see if they'll ship or not. The coolers look to be selling out (or getting pulled) fairly quickly.

yeah, that's what i was thinking. seems like yeti altered their soft cooler to mimic the design on the rtic

couldn't even come up with their own design. Steal it make millions pay a small fine and make more money.

it appears RTIC's misstep was to directly market their cooler as a YETI with the YETI price. they went out of their way to describe their product as identical to YETI...

the courts obviously agreed

It probably worked out for them in the long run. They made a name for themselves and seem to have gotten a good reputation. Come up with another design and they have a strong place in the market.

Yeah, it will be interesting to see what they do with the soft sided. I don't really need one, but I guess I probably should order one in case they change it.

I would think if anybody will change the softpack it should be Yeti since they copied Rtic on that.

I am pretty sure RTIC also jacked the square soft cooler idea too. I forget the name of the company but there was another company that had some prototypes that looked like the rtic. So says what I remember rtic saw that design and took it to market first. I would guess yeti copied rtic to just play the same game?

RTIC does have the best opportunity still. They thrust themselves into the front of the pack with there stunt. Now if they can redesign and bring the same quality to market for around the same price. YETI is still in trouble....

Me...I went overboard (Damn you UNK) but now im set on coolers probably for the rest of my life

Lose a lawsuit and consider it a win

probably because its just a small fine and they can stay in business
