Went out this afternoon. Had a doe in the plot and a mutant spike trying to run after her. Chased her out of the plot after a few minutes.

I must say, this thread i have been following since it started, and it, together with friends scouting info, and my own, has played a big part in planning.

A Rut Watch study, Lol.
Great thread.

Remember, at the beginning the big ones usually stay with the hot does a couple days. Then quickly find another.
After time passes, they troll the real estate much more, and even stake out big scrapes and scent check does in that area.

So, i think mid January will be good

Saw a few doe’s yesterday afternoon with no bucks around. The does we saw were just feeding and not antsy like I’ve seen in the past when rutting.

Trying to get out of the office early today to head up to the camp in time to make afternoon hunt. Have had 3 separate 8 points on camera today and yesterday. 7:00 am and 4:30 pm. Had another one traveling a trail in some pines freshening up scrapes. They probably have 10 scrapes every 20 yards on it. Hadnt been touched in a few weeks but he hit them. He passed thru a 4:00 am. Rubbing hocks together. Rut hopefully going into over drive. In Lawrence County.

I hunt just south of Centerville. I haven’t seen any signs of the rut. I was told it was early this year, mid December. Can Any one in Centerville confirm or deny?

In Centreville - Brother took a good 8pt couple days before Xmas at a feeder 8am. I saw a couple bucks chasing Jan 1-3. Passed on 3.5 yo 8pt at feeder at 8am on the 3rd. Saw him on camera again today. Seen does running across my camera last couple days. Imo rut is currently on…hopefully for another week. For last several years we’ve seen most activity just before Xmas and right after New Year fwiw

According to the MDWFP map, our peak rut should closely coincide with the area in the OP, and we usually see it starting around Christmas for a couple of weeks. This year, no evidence of any interest, bucks still hanging out together, feeding alongside does (of course, all this on camera at night). My butt has been out there a ton, from the 80 degree days to snow this week, and no sign of chasing, no daytime movement, no scrapes/rubs where we normally see them…this has been the weirdest weather I can remember, maybe that’s screwed with it, although it’s supposed to be based almost solely on hours of light.

I’ve seen a lot of of does this week, only one buck. It’s been really quiet the last 2 days. I’ve only seen one doe today.

I’m hunting south of Foxworth, Ms

Saw 3 bucks tonight. 2 spikes and a young 6 pt. All solo. Seemed to be cruising for the most part.

Yeah same here. Gotta work until just after lunch and gonna head up. Probably both Saturday and Sunday PM. Got stuff going both AMs. The young bucks are definitely moving around more since the temperature dropped below 80.
