Had another one traveling a trail in some pines freshening up scrapes. They probably have 10 scrapes every 20 yards on it. Hadnt been touched in a few weeks but he hit them. He passed thru a 4:00 am. Rubbing hocks together. Rut hopefully going into over drive. In Lawrence County

Well... I caught him slipping out too late Saturday morning.

Awesome!

Hunted Saturday PM in Wilkinson and didn't see anything. Didn't feel like getting out Sunday with the weather. May try to go later this week if I get a chance. Had a few good days from Tuesday to Thursday (all in PM) where I saw movement everyday and something different everyday, although no shooters. Two days of nothing in the PM on Friday and Saturday.

Hunt just north of Liberty.Bucks still traveling solo. Had an 8pt in my plot this morning feeding. My place just got thinned so it’s hard to find any scrapes.

Thanks! He's my first good deer. Dropped him off at taxidermist yesterday. Just got back heavy into hunting the past two years after hunting a lot when i was younger with my dad. I started duck hunting about 7 years ago and was fed up with everything that went into it when we would barely kill any ducks. I'd rather get away form everything and chill in peace my myself. Plus the deer camp atmosphere is was more enjoyable for me atleast lol

I went to Woodville yesterday evening and saw a small 8 . He was feeding on grass for about 30 minutes. I did see 17 turkeys though so that’s a good sign for spring.

Lmao my dad just started gunsmithing and he's been loading rounds for me for while with different bullets/powders etc, I usually only load 2 rounds in when walking to the stand. I just loaded up as many as I could take for the season on the sling so I never forgot them lol.

But on another note, the rounds my dad made for my .270 are ferocious. When skinning my deer, had several guys at my camp say they've never seen a .270 do that much damage. Not bad damage. Just powerful lol. Deer didnt move an inch after I pulled the trigger, same for the doe earlier in the year lol

And now that I got a buck I've been wanting all season, I'm leaving the rifle home and only taking my bow I got earlier this year. Really want to take something down for the first time with it.

Getting way more day time pics thats for sure. But i have not physically seen anything chasing yet. But that buck i killed this past Saturday definitely had that rut stench and his hocks we dark as hell.

Lawrence County has been pretty hot the last few days. I've got pics of some chasing and small bucks fighting. Can't wait to pull the cards and watch the videos.
Finally closed on my property this week, so heading up tomorrow for the inaugural hunt.

I use 46.0 gr imr 4064 with the hornady 140 gr btsp in .270. Sub 1” 3 shot groups at 200 yards. Groups open a little when the barrel heats up. I love that imr 4064.

I use 4064 quite a bit also. Very consistent. I have 5 lbs as of now .

Talked to a buddy that hunts a large tract about 10 miles North of Liberty this morning. He is seeing a lot of deer. had a pretty good buck come in Tuesday evening on about 10 does and showed no signs of rut.
