Thanks for the ideas, everyone. We're just in the thinking stage right now, but I like your suggestions. We may go west. We're also thinking about the east TN or NC area.

Where else have you lived, and do you have kids?
(Maybe check out Blowing Rock, NC?)

I've lived in AL my whole life minus a year and a half in high school where I lived in Brookhaven, MS. We have one 6 year old daughter, but she's home schooled, so school systems don't matter much.

We're not opposed to a move across country. Really the only ties we have here at all are my parents and sister. But, I do like the Appalachian mountains.

I guess it's all going to come down to where I can find a job and where my wife can find people interested in yoga.

yoga-artsy areas, plus lots of Appalachian areas are falconry friendly. Hell, go check out Mentone. (OK, just kidding)

Mom lives near Asheville. Plenty of artsy yoga loving people near there. The national forests are nice as well.

That's kind of the key.

Yeah... Idaho and Colorado are not as remote as Alaska, but you're going to need enough middle to upper class women into yoga to support your wife's career.

I would seriously consider Colorado, particularly near the resort areas. You can live a mountain lifestyle, and still be close enough to the money and population open a yoga studio, etc.

What do you do again?

79, is yoger'n when you get all twisted up like a pretzel, or, is it when you just sit there crosslegged like an injun chief and say, "aaahmmmmmmmm", for an hour or so?

No. Yoga is where you wrap old fashioned calesthenics(sp?) and stretching, in Eastern mysticism... and sell it for 5x the price.

Totally agree with Ole Geauxt. Sante Fe is this all the way.

You'd have to trout fish through.

Durango CO. it's a college town and it's very outdoors type.

Look up Outside magazine best towns, Field and Stream top 200 towns, and American Cowboy magazine "best places to live the west". That should get you started.
