Why would I lie. No reason to make up anything. The article is was referring to was in the Houma paper sometime early last fall. What the vet was referring to is how hyper a lot of other dogs are such as labs and little dogs that are always snapping at people. If any of you were ever around a pit bull you would see how calm of a dog it is. Now people that keep these things on a chain in the bag of a yard with no human interaction get to be monsters sometimes but ones that aren't abused never act this way. And all you that love labs I would never own one the one I had was so damn hyper I couldn't do anything with it and it bit two little kids but yet I have owned pit bulls all my life and one has never even growled at a human. The two I own now are both rescued dogs and are fixed so no I don't own them to be a badass or fight them they are house dogs that don't do anything but lay around and I have parties at my house with 20-30 people and kids and everyone loves them and no one ever asks me to kennel them. There were two recent attacks near my house where headlines were pit bulls attack someone and in both cases the dogs were actually boxers. So a lot of times the dog may not even be a pit yet they get blamed for it. Is anyone trying to ban boxers whom are involved in cases like this. Most people against pits haven't ever been around one yet have an opinion due to headlines that aren't true, he'll I used to be Leary of them myself due to their reputation until I started spending time around them and I would never own another dog except a rescued pit. My aunt has five she has rescued and I bring mine over for all them to go an o walk in the country and no they don't attack each other they are all well aocialied dogs

wow, i go hunting for the weekend and this thread is still going.
i have read all responses and i agree with most. i am pretty much neutral in this argument, i can see both sides.
to the poster who said OT is trolls. this thread has been a pretty decent disscussion compared to the other i read.

There's no doubt that there are some pit bulls out there that are better pets than some labs.
The problem is the people who raise labs and the people who raise pit bulls. You won't see many people raising labs because they think they are big badass dogs to scare people away. People raise labs to be obedient working dogs (usually). Not many people goin "shite man I got dis lab man he's a bad sob he gone bite yo arse if you piss me off yerd me." It's an all to common occurrence with pits.
The people who own pit bulls have ruined the breed and that is just something that pit owners will have to live with.
I've had my truck attacked by some stupid arse pit bulls in the hood before. Any dog that tries to take out a truck should be shot, and if I had a gun they would have been shot. Of course, the owner wasn't much of an outstanding citizen. Came outside cursing at me when I tried to run over them so my buddy could get to his house. It was a hell of an experience. I was glad to get outta there with no bullet holes in my truck

I worked at a vet clinic for six years (as most of y'all have heard me say before) and I have to say I was more comfortable w a Pitt than a chihuahua any day of the week.
But...I think that once they taste blood, they want it. We had one that was great but attacked a cat and after that he ended up murdering a cat in our clinic. He was great w other dogs and people though. That's the only downside I see to them.
Here's my pitt/hound mix, Cane:

my vet loves pits. she has three of her own she rescued. with that said, it's a gamble with these strong arse dogs.
i usually deal with some type of pit on a weekly basis and i am not a dog catcher.
what i have found is breeding has really f'ed up this breed. as another poster in this thread has stated, pits are great fighting dogs (which i dont support) but are not supposed to be people aggressive.
i work in NBR and see it a lot. if you walk by a yard and male pit is aggressive and biting the fence, it's a "badass dog". that same person can walk by another yard and see a people aggressive dog biting the fence and they think "thats a badass female, we need to breed these dogs". hence, a fricked up litter of puppies.
that is what we have these days.

Like I said I own pits and do agree with what some of you are saying about the wrong people owning them and making them aggressive. I have some on my block that live this way on a chain in a yard being abused, underfed but if you call animal control they will pick them up and it doesn't end well for the dog. When a pit goes to a pound it dies

i had a BMC that would do that also. a coon=cat which also equaled prey for them. when she was around anything but a person was prey when it came to her.

I only read the last page so I'm sure this has probably been said....but I wouldn't be comfortable with one in my neighborhood. I know it is frustrating for good pit owners and I do agree that other dogs can be crazy, attack people, etc. The difference is the consequences are usually more severe when a pit decides to go on a rampage compared to when other breeds do the same.
And in how many pit attack cases do you hear the owner say "Yeah, I should have expected it. I knew this would happen sooner or later"? It is almost always "This has never happened before and I never expected it. This wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for [insert whatever victim did wrong]".

to an extent, you are singing to the choir. i deal with these breeds often and i want to put a .40cal round in them.
i just hate this whole breed has been labeled like they have.
trash can mess up an entire breed of dog.

Actually you usually don't hear people say I never thought it would happen. Most attacks by pits are usually some dog on the loose that nobody ever steps up to claim it as their dog because they are a shitty dog owner and haven't ever taken care of the dog anyway

Little unsocialized dogs can be a terror to people they don't know. And I do have a scar on my arm from being bit by a Pitt and would still prefer them to a tiny terror.

A lot of trash folks own a lot of different breeds. Only a couple run around attacking and killing. The nature of the breed is what makes it dangerous.
