The Clifton study of attacks from 1982 through 2006 produced similar results. According to Clifton study, pit bulls, Rottweilers, Presa Canarios and their mixes were responsible for 65% of the canine homicides that occurred during a period of 24 years in the USA. (Clifton, Dog attack deaths and maimings, U.S. & Canada, September 1982 to November 13, 2006; click here to read it.)

Other breeds were also responsible for homicides, but to a much lesser extent. A 1997 study of dog bite fatalities in the years 1979 through 1996 revealed that the following breeds had killed one or more persons: pit bulls, Rottweilers, German shepherds, huskies, Alaskan malamutes, Doberman pinschers, chows, Great Danes, St. Bernards and Akitas. (Dog Bite Related Fatalities," Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, May 30, 1997, Vol. 46, No. 21, pp. 463 et. seq.) Since 1975, fatal attacks have been attributed to dogs from at least 30 breeds.

Yeah, the 75% figure I used was from 2011. The overall trend is extremely high for the two breeds (Pits and Rottweilers.) These dogs are more capable of debilitating and disfiguring or fatal injuries than others.

I think they are an aggressive breed and due to the lack of responsibility in america, they should be required a permit to own.

Not the dogs fault, but more o do with the overwhelming amount of trash (real trash, not good ol' boy trash) that owns them.

As I've said in that OT thread, I've known some great Pitt owners and their pets are freaking adorable, well behaved and not deprived or the attention, money and responsibilty that comes with them. They're just strong as frick and that's the most appealing aspect for those who get them for the wrong reason. I'd like to see one tear into a hog though.

OP: don't put too much stock in things said on the OT. More trolls and pretentious people than anything.

Yall wouldn't know what to do around here without me. Everybody would start buying .243's and I would have so many blood tracking jobs that I could drop out of school and retire at 26 years old

Not as long as I have anything to say they won`t.
I stand strong in my opinion against it.

Hell my wife is about 125 lbs and shoots a 270WSM.

You know alot of those dog bite statistics aren't correct. A vet in Houma wrote an article a few months back and showed how untrue these statistics are. In dog bite cases it's usually up to one cop to determine the type of dog involved and if it's a dog that they can't easily identify they put it down as pit bull mix usually with no way of knowing what it is. Do we thing police get dog identifying training? The vet went on to say he much rather treat pits because they are a much calmer dog that other breeds.

Well, he is a dumb frick! My daughter is a Vet and for her to treat a pit, the owner must put a muzle on it before going into the office. Now my son and his girlfriend have one that is 8 years old. The dam dog will lick the shite out of you. They bring it to the house all the time and its a bitch due to the fact my dogs just don't like another dog in the yard.

Would I own one? No, due to the fact that to me a dog must earn its keep!

I would much rather a hyper dog than a calm dog that might snap and rip an arm off.

We gonna have to have a LINK showing this or I'm calling complete bullshite on this one. I've never heard a single vet say he'd like to work on a pit much less that he prefers too

LIE

I just don't get all of the knighting for pitbulls, It's ridiculous. The fact that they have to be defended is enough to indict them. Think about it, how may times do people say a lab is a great dog FOR EVERYTHING and a bunch of people come in and argue that fact.

Whereas every single time someone mentions pits being good dogs at least 70% of the responses are arguing against the statement. If you have to be so defensive you already know you are wrong.

Thats how i feel about it 100%

I try not to go there with dog threads. IMO, if you arent using it to catch pigs, you should get something else. I dont understand why people want them just for the hell of it. There are plenty of large dog breeds that wont put you in the hospital if you piss them off.
