Awesome to be with your son in the woods.

First week in a while I was home instead of at deer camp. Restrung my baitcasters w new mono. Paddled the yak out back and caught a few green trout, pulled the traps and boiled a few big dirty #1 crabs.

Was finally able to take my 10yr old to the company ranch during hunting season, so Saturday was his first time in the stand. He did his part and spotted this dude for me.

Smoked a bone-in pork loin Saturday and it was great. Got in the woods today and didn’t see anything. Not surprising considering it was 65 and a super moon

Fog didn’t lift until after lunch both days, but stuck some reds on the fly yesterday afternoon when the sun finally broke through.

Hunted 7 hrs Saturday and saw none. Private property in the middle of Kisatchie - Winn Parish.
Early Sunday on the same stand, one made a mistake.
I know - he needed another year.

Took the yak out Saturday. It was slow going. I fished nearly all day to scratch together 11 keepers. I did have a few nice ones though. Biggest was 15 3/4".

Took my dude out to IB Saturday. Got him on his first true duck hunt with action. He nailed his retrieves, even hunted down a cripple in cover with some casting. Super proud of him.

ETA: some coonass tried to put the squeeze on us coming out saying it was private property and we needed to pay him $100/ea to hunt ducks there. I politely engaged in pulling out my phone with onxhunt app on it and proceeded to prove to him that I wasn't a moron and we were in fact hunting on Indian Bayou property. He was baffled by technology and had no response. I'm sure this is his thing though, wonder how many dudes fall for his scam and pay him some cash.

Saturday decided to go to Big Lake and only managed 7 keepers. Must have caught 25 12"-14" rat reds.

Slept in on Sunday until the fog cleared. Got in the blind at 10:20 and had a two man limit by 12:30. LOTS of ducks were down. Hopefully they stay for the second split.
