Firearm + Intoxication = Felony in Missouri.
Before his retirement a friend of mine who was an associate judge in the 33rd Judicial District declared the law unconstitutional but the Missouri State Supreme Court slapped him down.
I hope your friend comes out okay.

How crazy is this?
My MIL’s brother accidentally shot himself in the foot while taking a revolver out of his front right pants pocket. This happened about 15 years ago.
Next up. Foot shooter’s son was starting to clean his pistol while sitting on his couch, removed the magazine, and shot a round through his leg right above his ankle. This happened about 4 years ago.
Next up. Ankle shooter’s cousin was cleaning his pistol while watching TV and when he started to clear the chamber, he shot a hole in his TV screen.
Yikes!

Honestly I hope the cops keep his guns because it’s accidental shootings like this that will get guns banned. If at anytime you prove to be an incompetent gun owner you should have that privilege revoked. Don’t screw it up for the rest of us because you’re a dumbass

Non gun enthusiast question. Is it common to have a round in the chamber? I would never carry a gun that way. I don’t own a pistol, just a couple of shotguns and rifles, and shotguns are different, but I won’t enter or exit a stand with a round in the chamber. I do plan on getting a pistol for work, but I won’t be walking around with a round chambered. Just wondering if this is common practice, seems like you’re asking for it if you do this.

Very common practice. Bad guys don’t give you time to load up.

Gotcha, and I’m not here to tell anybody they’re wrong, the more good guys carrying the safer we all are. I just want to have that knowledge, while I treat every gun like it’s loaded and ready I never realized how many of them actually are.

He was hunting, had his .45 in his pant pocket. Went to pull it out and the gun went off sending the bullet tumbling down his entire leg.
The gun didn't "go off". He negligently and improperly carried a firearm in a manner in which allowed him to fire the weapon unintentionally, thankfully only injuring himself.
I hate when people say the gun "went off" like it somehow did it all by itself.

I think we all have a story like this. Mine's like this.
My best friend is a retired LEO...he told me of a time when a fellow LEO was adjusting the trigger tension on one of his weapons (pistol) (I don't recall if it was his issue or backup weapon). He shot himself in the hand. Through and through, just soft tissue damage. He was lucky. Funny thing is...I went to a Hunter's Safety course with my buddy because he wanted to start hunting with me...and lo and behold who's sitting up in the front of the same class...yep the guy that shot himself. Kinda ironic.

Was talking with a co-worker one day. Don't recall exactly what his legal status was, but it was something along the lines of it being difficult or impossible for him to buy a gun for a while. He was in his college apartment with a deer rifle. Took it out of the case and it went off through the ceiling of his apartment into the apartment above him .
Some of the guys from work used to come up to the camp just to hang out. He never made the trip . Good guy, but being slightly irresponsible is a no-no once guns are involved.

Alcohol related gun crimes in Louisiana are auto felonies. He will never see any of those guns again. He better get a good lawyer quick if he wants to stay out of jail.

Absolutely. By "went off" I meant that he caused it to go off by making a poor decision. Sorry for using a phrase that upset you.
ETA: I used that phrase because I wasn’t there and don’t know EXACTLY how it happened.

This is why any of my loaded handguns are always sitting in a holster, even if it’s not on my body.
Always protect the trigger when the gun is chambered! Always.
It amazes me how people will drop $500 and up on a handgun but not drop $50-$80 on a proper holster. Don't carry a handgun with the trigger exposed, period. Well, unless you welcome some additional holes on your person.

Statistics also show owning a gun greatly increases the chances of being shot by your gun.
If you don't own a gun you cannot shoot yourself.
What's your point?
