We had American Pitbulls "Boudreaux and Gator" if you will at 65-95 pounds of solid muscle, athletic dogs with straight legs. Ours were game and excellent family dogs as well. They would not guard the home though.
That being said the breed needs a highly vigilant owner IMO. Similar to the Catahoula, the breed isn't for everyone.

When my nephew was a baby, my parents would keep him sometimes. They had a big tough old male lab. They would put my nephew down for a nap and Chief would lie down next the crib and guard it as long as my nephew was there.

Our lab that we had to put down in Sept was like that with the kids and my wife.
He would not let a strange dog get between him and my kids or wife.

Sounds like a great dog & fine addition to the family!
I'm not sure what we're going to do but things are amiss without my buddy!

We have a 2 year old Shih Tzu. Great, great inside dog.
Very laid back and ready to play or snooze 24/7. Easy to train, rarely barks unless stranger at the door and extremely loyal.

We have half Great Pyrenees/Anatolians and they are extremely sweet girls. They don’t like deer or donkeys getting close to their herd.
One was already very friendly and did her job guarding sheep. They other was a bit shy but had sense warmed up and a better barker.
Sad they don’t live very long.

Love this dude. French Bulldogs are so funny and loving dogs .. not worth a shite for anything else I don’t think but are so enjoyable

I came home to see my Mom, brought my two Pits with me. Her neighbor had a Frenchy.
My dogs ran back and forth on opposite sides of the chain link fence with the Frenchy. Looking through the window I was happy to see them apparently having fun. Watched for a minute or so and started tending my Mom.
Go back to the window a few minutes later to find the Frenchy jumped the fence and the three dogs were having the time of their lives. The Frenchy was surprisingly athletic and didn't give damn about how vicious my pitbulls were even at twice it's size. It was a sight. Similar to when we had Pits and Dachsunds.

Friends have two Pugs and they shed terribly. Their house and automobiles are covered in pug hair...and yes they try to keep it cleaned up. Those two dogs sleep in the bed with them....I can't even imagine.

We have a “rescue” English Bulldog. She loves us, and loves isn’t a strong enough word. She mourns even the shortest spans of time apart, and is always up for any adventure while 30 seconds earlier she had the most rhythmic hypnotic snores from whatever piece of furniture she’s on, all the while actively monitoring Amazon deliveries, the fridge opening, or the slightest new food smell in the air without any audible packaging sound occurring…..so she has excellent super-powers.
And has us all wrapped around her paw
