Pondering a new SXS in next year . . . I have had 2 Polaris Rangers and have been pleased. However, several friends have Can Ams and Hondas and love them. What is general consensus of best for hunting and around house? ie not going to Tower Trax.

I've run Polaris for 25 years and I think my next buggy will be a Kawasaki Ridge. 4 cyl engine I drove was velvet smooth and the clutch was good also.

I love my HD9. Granted, it's like 2 months old but I love it

Only regret is not paying the dealership to install the winch and LED's. Holy hell that was a pain in the arse.

I looked at all of them quite a bit and probably would have been happy with the Can-AM or Ranger. Walked around the Honda dealership inside and out for 20 minutes and never could get someone to come out and talk to me so I said to hell with Honda. Seems like you get more bang for your buck with Can Am, Polaris and Kawasaki anyway.

I know two people with Honda Pioneers. 2022 and 2023 models.
Both have issues with the transmission over heating when going slow for periods of times during the summer heat. It throws a light on the dash and the bike goes into limp mode which limits you to 1st gear only and a crawl.

I'm unsure if its wide spread or maybe Honda has corrected it in the new models. Just something I would research/look into before spending that kind of coin.

Personally, I'll take a Polaris Ranger.

I have a mule pro fxt and have been very happy with it.

That being said, dad just bought a Can Am HD10? That seems like a whole different class of machine. Very nice.

I do like the bench seating in the mule vs the seating in the can am though.

I'm not typing the novel again.

Honda if your daily driver is a 1985 Toyota truck.

Ranger 1000 if your daily driver is not a 1985 Toyota truck.

Canam if you're willing to flip a coin that it will be the most reliable thing ever or a hunk of shite. Your 30k.

I have a ‘25 Ranger 1000 sohc eps. It’s been very reliable for the 40 hours and 500 miles I’ve had it. To me it’s the perfect hunting and pretty rig because of the price and what it comes with.

I’ve had a Can Am HD9 for 4 years now. Same uses as you. No issues to speak of. I’ve always had Honda four wheelers and was leaning towards a Pioneer, but once I got in the Can Am I was sold. It’s just a more comfortable, smoother machine. I’ve got about 200 hours on mine.

Mods/additions I’ve got that I like: light bar, winch, switched pod lights facing backwards above for reverse lights, rubber drop in bed liner (Amazon), bed rails (also Amazon), and BFG KO3 tires. Tires are great. Aggressive enough off road but not knobby on the road and they don’t destroy my yard doing yard work.

Haven’t used anything except Can-Am for almost a decade. Have 4 on the farm right now and I don’t see switching to another SxS for a good little while.

I’m not a big fan of Hondas for hunting use in the south. The modern version is not as reliable as people act like they are. The engine is underpowered for what the bike weighs and is directly under you, meaning heat comes into the cab, and it’s miserable to ride in the summer. Hit one good puddle at speed and steam is running up your back. The transmission seems like it never wants to leave 2nd gear. Feels like it was designed for working on a cattle ranch up north, best thing about it is the trans can go slow without a belt slipping or lurching if that’s how you like to ride around the house.

polaris 2021 xp1000 gang here.

no issues except a small switch i had to get for a potential issue (which i was having and still have because i have been too lazy to swap it out) with it not cranking because the brake sensor/pressure switch from the factory wasn't a great design. motor, drivetrain, belts all great. wish the bed had a hydraulic lift for work like my wife's uncle's kubota... but mine will go anywhere, and is much more comfortable. (about 100 cup holders, too) :)

Get a Honda unless you constantly want something breaking. Hondas don’t break

I'm in this camp. Currently have a 2002 Rancher 350 that is unstoppable.

Also have a 2012 Polaris Ranger 500 that is decent for what I need (deer and duck hunting).
The steering is as stiff as a board and I've had to replace the ignition switch twice. Other than that I can't complain, but my next sxs will be a Pioneer 700.

This hasn’t been true in 20 years. Buddy of mine is currently replacing the transmission in his pioneer after a few years of normal hunting camp use. Has had random electrical gremlins too. They have just as many issues as other brands.

You do realize you're slipping the shite out of the clutches to go slow in a pioneer 1000?

And they cost 28x more than a belt swap... And take roughly 70x longer to do.

I didn’t say it was a good idea, I just know it will be smoother than a CVT at lower speed. Won’t catch me going slower that 10-15 in anything.

Guess your buddy got a lemon. Honda outperforms every other manufacturer from a cost of ownership/repairs/breakdowns standpoint
