Just past 50k on my '24 Ram 1500 Laramie, called my dealership to see about possibly changing my transmission fluid, they claimed its "non-serviceable" and mopar claims its a life-time fluid (I don't buy it).

Looked online and people saying it's due to cost liability with warranty, also transmissions for Hemi's aren't the most reliable so do yall have any good recommendations for a shop around the Baton Rouge/LP area to bring my truck and get my transmission fluid changed? Much appreciated!

I would find a new dealership. From Google AI

quote:

Changing the transmission fluid on a 2024 Ram 1500 (5.7L Hemi) with the ZF 8-speed automatic requires a specialized synthetic ATF (e.g., Mopar 8&9 speed or ZF Lifeguard 8), typically taking 6–7 quarts. The filter is integrated into the plastic pan, requiring a full pan replacement. Recommended service is every 60,000 miles, or 40k–50k under severe driving.

That is such a stupid and outdated myth.

OP, yes change your fluid and filter in your transmission around every 50k miles. I know the owners manual says don’t change it

I have a 2019 Ford and the owners manual recommends fluid and filter change on the 10r80 at 150,000 miles. Called the dealer I bought it from last week and the service manager said yea no. Recommended fluid change now at 65k, and filter and fluid change around 100k. Have an appointment this week.

I'll never buy into the lifetime fluid or extended intervals claim considering the demand placed on these complex transmissions.

Find a reputable transmission shop. It's a ZF transmission and the fluid, pan, and filter can be changed. I plan on doing the same with my Ram 1500. Here is the protocol.

Crazy. They're throwing money away. Maybe they make more on selling you a new transmission.

AgCo Automotive, Coursey Blvd, BR. They have full-time transmission specialist tech on staff, Josh, who was raised on transmissions - his Dad owned a transmission shop in BR for many years. They only work by appointment - you’d have to call. I’d trust anything they tell you regarding that Ram transmission & servicing.

A in-house receptionist will answer the phone but you can explain the dilemma and ask to speak to Brian, the general manager, who is a multi-decade tech himself. Better yet, if you have time you can always drive by and Brian will be at the front desk and you can speak and discuss with him, before deciding what to do.

If you are in Baton Rouge, recommend Kenny's Transmission. He is located near the old Bon Marche' Mall. He recently rebuilt a 2014 Chevy Silverado Transmission for me and serviced a 2015 Chevy Silverado Transmission for me.

Depending on the vehicle and duty cycle you might make it 500,000 miles on the original juice. The transmission certainly wont be in great shape anymore, but you can do it. Get a 68RFE and drag a camper around the Rockies and you probably wont get to 200,000 before stuff stops working.

There's no transmission made that doesn't benefit from fresh fluid, assuming it isnt replaced by a retard.

That is the problem at many shops.

I have only ever had one transmission go out, and it was a truck I did the scheduled fluid changes with at the dealer.

I change my own oil and filters now not to save money, but because I don’t trust them to do it.

100%

Only person other than myself I trust is my mechanic. And he's $110/hr so it's not cheap to get him to do it. I don't want "lube techs" anywhere near something as important as oil or trans fluid.

They don’t make it to 150,000 miles on original fluid. You’d be lucky to hit 100,000 miles. Mine was rebuilt at 62,000 miles. Don’t let the dealer rebuild it. They will skimp and use junk parts and won’t flush the system properly and will try to reuse the torque converter. They are criminals. The 2019 10r80 is a piece of shite, pure and simple. They get much better for the 2023 model year.
