I'm far from an expert, but looks like a banded water snake to me. Be a lot easier to tell if the head still looked like a head.

Was there no rattle? Because that sure does look like a Timber rattlesnake.
edit: I think it is a banded watersnake after further review.

I think I see fangs in the one pic.

Get a pic of the underside of the tail if you want to know for sure.

Look at the pupil. Round is safe, slit is trouble.

Dogs have a natural resistance to snake venom, but you should still take him to the vet. Our lab got bit at the lease 2 seasons ago and they put him on antibiotics to prevent against an infection. Vet said he'd have likely been fine without it, but wanted to take the precaution.
That being said, we had a guy lose his 3 year old lab to a bite on his paw the season before. The bite went through the top of the paw and exited inbetween his pads. Had to have been a HUGE snake that pumped in a ton of venom. Sad hunt.

Markings look like a cotton mouth, but he looks kinda skinny. Did he have a stubby tail? The mouth in the second pic looks awfully white too.

Looks like a cottonmouth. Anxiously awaiting update from OP, hope your dog is ok.
