Port Eads closed after 12 million dollar renovation due to South Pass silting

I don't understand why the Corps of Engineers won't approve a Weir system like Eads, himself, designed back in 1870 to sweep the shallow silt out of South Pass which in turn deepens the depth of the water. It is a hell of a lot cheaper than dredging the damn channel.

It's my understanding that now that SW pass takes the majority of the water flowing to the Gulf, that there would not be enough volume coming through South pass for another weir system to be effective.
Also, not sure if this would be another reason, but there is absolutely no way anything will be done that could even remotely impact SW pass in a negative way.

Place is like naming your kid Quanterrious, never had a chance. Coastal zones after hurricanes get tons of Fed money to piss off and they do a fine job of spending it without any plan.

Passed by there a few times last year. Sure did look spiffy with nobody but a radio operator there

I'd imagine the place just wasn't profitable. the Fed money ran out, so they shut down.

They were catering to the sport fish crowd, difficult when it’s too shallow for them to buy $9/gallon gas. No eye deer what he diesel was per gallon but....
No different than South Cameron/Johnson’s Bayou schools. Total enrollment of 120-180 and falling with each years seniors, this is K-12. My est on build is $50mil for both and I am probably on the low side. Eventually the parish will be insuring vacant buildings for millions each year.

Not to mention the rooms were outrageous. We were wnating to stay there a weekend and fish out of a bay boat but the rooms were so damn much we stayed in venice and just fueled up there.

Had a houseboat there for 22 years and you paid Buzzy’s price for fuel. They need to cater to inshore, trout, Redfish, bass and ducks.

Hopefully someone will open it up for houseboats like in the past. Would be nice to have one down there.

I thought they still had a few down there?

Sounds like we have some wetlands loss reversal. I thought this is a good thing.

Not sure, just saw it on the old interwebs and copied it.

Why didn’t they rebuild it on SW Pass? Why don’t they move it there ?
