If you follow that link and watch all the videos that are suggested after that one you will see a pattern, at least I did.

I now know what to avoid so I do not become a victim.

I do have an alarm, but not a PLAN on how to shoot someone.

My home has been invaded twice, and I can assure you that it is an erie feeling to know that you were asleep in your favorite chair in the living room, when an uninvited person came in your house and most likely saw you asleep, steeling your wifes purse on the way out.
I know what my plan would be: move.

The problem actualy moved instead of me.

The gov. so kindly allowed a FEMA park next to my neighborhood.

I think one of the pieces of shite that broke in got his arse caught on another hiest and looked up.

Even though the FEMA park has been gone for a few years now, I still probably wouldn't have a house without an alarm. Just one of those things that changes you. Well, changed me anyway.

You can have a full magazine with a round in the chamber and always have that option to cycle the slide if you want scare them off, yet you also have the option of getting a quick round off when you don't have time to cycle the slide

true

With modern pistols, isn't that kinda like wearing a belt and suspenders?

not really, all you have to do is pull the trigger on my pistol, like most that I know of, if one is not in the chamber there is an added "safety" that most pistols do not come equipped with

quote:

So do I. I cycled the action of an AK47 (pretty damn loud) on three dudes. They didn't run. Instead, pistol was drawn and all hell broke loose. With my son's shooting, he would be dead today had the chamber been empty.

well seems like we both have reasons for the way we do things that have worked for us in the past

...or perhaps fight back in a major way.

A house I have is on a block with 14 homes. From 2004-2009, 10 of the 14 were victimized in some fashion (mostly burglary). Trash was constantly walking and driving the area.

We went ape-shite vigilante in 2009: Everyone posted "No Trespassing" signs and installed motion lights:
-Killed 2,
-Shot & wounded 2,
-Captured 5

Crime rate the last 3 years = ZERO
No foot traffic. No thugs driving around. A really nice area again.

When I lived in the hood, 3 utes walked up while I was shooting 50 yard groups across my street and along the side of my house. After putting 3 in the 10 ring, one of them said, "Main...he cud shoot you, and no one wud eva even know!"

Never had another thing stolen after that. The old lady drug dealer across the street told my mother that my house was called, the commando house

All guns should be secured to prevent unauthorized access. "Secured" may mean "on your hip," or may mean "locked in a gun safe," or anything in between.

You sure don't want to come to my house. I have them in just about every room besides a safe that is full.

No kids other then a grandson that is under three. Were he plays, there are no guns.

For those that use a shotgun. I did try out a new round for me. Took a low brass #6 shot, cut the top off and dumped the pellets out. From there, I had filled the casing with wax.

Shot it at a bottle of water at 25 yards. Dead on and blew the crap out the bottle. I still have to check this out on sheetrock to see if that will go thru a wall, which I don't think it will. Might be my new home protection round. Besides that, I can put 12 of them in my 1100 by cutting the shell down to 2 1/2".

Watched a video that was posted on here the other day that did the same thing. His rounds failed to break the skin on a mock head.

I load the pistols to the brim but the home Defense military Ithaca pump is not. Reason the shotgun is in the closet and to many times my wife puts clothes away and I don't want the chance of her hitting the trigger as I have seen that happen with shotguns loaded before. Safety off and round in the magazine for me. I don't like a round in a shotgun ever unless you are acctully hunting. A guy I knew put his loaded shot gun in the truck bed, dog jumped in and paw went into the trigger guard, boom, lost a leg.

What concerns me about many posters is how they fail to comprehend how quickly a home invasion occurs, how long 1 second is in that context, and how likely they are to get fumble-fisted when the reality of "this is really happening" sets in. This is a major risk, but all risks must be balanced.

This is said alot, but the same crowd seems to also advocate bedside gun boxes that take "2 seconds", versus an unloaded gun that may take the same two seconds. And both require complex maneuvers in a very frightening situation.

I can't say I've really noticed that (maybe I'm oblivious).

My weapon is out, loaded, round chambered, and ready to go.

Cut shells and wax slugs have very unpredictable flight paths.

Look up the videos by taofledermous (sp?) on YouTube. He has a ton of high speed stuff where you can see the slug change directions in midair.

I would also not suggest you doctor your own loads for home defense. You never know if they're gonna work 100% of the time.
