Well, title may be a bit misleading and I am glad that the gun in the video was not loaded but it still teaches a lesson. "Experts" on this board believe that leaving a home defense (HD) shotgun unloaded and racking the pump will scare any intruder away, leaving a trail of shite behind him.

This video shows a man racking a shotgun at an innocent man and the man not even realizing what was going on. Sure, the man was probably drunk but what about the robber on Meth? How will he react at your silly little pump. Then when you short stroke it or fail to pull the trigger (like in the video) what next? Will you still be happy that you didn't have your gun loaded while the robber has the upper hand on you and your family?

TL;DR: Empty guns are worthless and anybody that says racking a shotgun scares robbers isn't worth their weight in dog shite.

Video located here.

ETA: sorry for the aggressive tone taken above. I was upset when I posted this and the video didn't help my attitude.

Its not just this board, I heard this no less than 6 times during my post academy for why they are left with nothing in the chamber while in the rack.

I'm on the fence about this issue and it all depends on your immediate surroundings. I keep two loaded revolvers in my night stand and have a loaded gun in every other room of the house. Every gun except my revolvers have rounds ready in the magazine only. I will scale this back when my son gets a little older. I don't want my guns being in the wrong hands of my son or other kids in the house in a few years. I was raised with guns in the house and fully understand the magnitude of guns and always have. I can't say the same for the neighbor's kid(s) that may come over.

You are well prepared and for the guns that are not, you have good reason for them being kept that way. I am referring to people that keep all weapons unloaded and less lethal than an airsoft gun.

Brass, I respect most LEOs but it is no secret that some are dumber than a sack of bricks. Some are incredible intelligent but the ones that you described are not these officers.

My kids know that they do not touch our guns unless I'm there and they don't even go into our room with friends because that's where some of the guns are stored. Others are locked in a closet upstairs.

I've got a micro vault for my pistol by my bed. Going to get a few that mount to the wall and have some more around the house. Fort Knox even makes one for long guns.

I'm the same way. Kids friends are always at the house. Don't need them finding something they know nothing about.

If I was an armed intruder and heard a shotgun being racked I would shoot towards the sound.

Exactly. I also do not have a light on my weapons because of this too. However, I do not have anybody else in the house that could be put in danger because of this.

Lighten up, Francis. It was not directed towards a single person and was more of a jab (not you JAB) than anything else.

And that sammich looks delicious.

Not sure if the victim in this video is a badass or a fool.

Also can't see for sure but did the robber try to rack the shotgun and that's when the victim countered?

The victim countered a few seconds after the racking. The victim didnt even respond immediately to the racking.

there are good reasons to leave a gun unloaded.

not having someone else shoot you or themselves with it is at the top.

The line between hero and fool is pretty damn thin but by the way he moved out of the line of attack, and by how decisive his action was Id say he was trained and knew that he comfortable in what he could do.
