Buddy and I have been having this conversation, when you are walking to your stand early in the morning are you using a flashlight? I try to use moonlight as much as possible just some mornings, it’s not enough…. what are y’all doing?

Definitely a source of artificial light. I’m not running into banana spiders and I want to see that rougarou before it eats me.

Sometimes yes. Sometimes no. Depends on the stand and the moon. I have a couple of sets that are right off the road and only ~70 or so yards into the woods. I also know the trails in well. I generally don’t need a light for those.

I have other sets that are 200+ yards into the woods. If I try to get to those without a light, I just wind up making a bunch of noise.

Green cap light

Have some kind of light on so you don’t get shot.

Also green cap light. There are 6 foot holes and dropoffs on most of my walks. Just a couple I could use the moon for most of it.

Red light. Keep your night vision and they cant see it. At least an optometrist buddy told me that…unless thats backwards and he pulled an all time joke on me

I usually use a green filtered light on a low setting for deer season. I have gone without a light many times but now I worry that if somebody was poaching, they might not wait for daylight to shoot, so I like to have a light.

Turkey season is a different story though… I don’t use any light at all.

I use regular white light and dgaf.
If the deer can see my light, they can definitely hear me walking.

only use a red or green light, NEVER use a regular flashlight unless you like spooking deer before you even see them

I use a white light. I feel I can walk quieter with it. Wouldn’t deer see artificial light no matter what color it is?

I usually wait until I shite before the morning hunt, so often I’m walking in right at legal shooting time, but I’ll use a regular white light and not think twice about it.

I bring a light but turn it on spotty here and there if I have to…stays off 99%. My set walks are clean and clear. No reason to need a light.

Headlight with red and green led.
Red is the dimmest so I use it for most walks where I know where I’m at. If I need a bright light I use the green, I have walked up on deer using the green light.

I have always thought 1. the deer don't know where I'm climbing and 2. any deer I am going to shoot isn't close to my stand that early.

Always use a light mainly for safety. Red light if I don't really need to see all that good and I just rip the white light if I do need to see.

90% of the time no light due to some moonlight. Now pitch black through a cutover or timber I'm using a light. It's not that Im scared, it's because I can't see briars, trees and limbs in the pitch black.

You haven’t lived until you walk into the middle of a covey of quail in pitch darknesses

I always use a headlight. Doubles as a lantern to hang in a case in the stand for me to get situated.

they can hear my big arse trampling thru the woods before they see my light. I have a nitecore head light on mostly so I don’t step in a hole or clothesline myself on a branch or vine. Doesn’t seem to affect my hunts so far.
