Louisiana Swamp: some of the hardest deer hunting terrain?

Everytime I take I-10 east to Nola I always think who is brave, bold, and determined enough to deer hunt Maurepas swamp. Mosquitoes, snakes, every step you take you sink a few feet in the mud and it takes effort to get your foot out. Just a brutally hard place to hunt. I am mad at them…but those dudes are a different breed of mad at them.
I know there are some deer in there that will grow to be mature and never see or smell a human in their life time and die likely of natural causes.
Could this be some of the hardest terrain to deer hunt in the nation?

Grew up hunting south of Venice (delta and pass a loutra) killed several with my bow . I have now hunted and killed in (ms,al,ga, ark, col , mt, mo) and I can say that the does and spikes that I killed in those swampy ridges were the hardest deer I have ever hunted.
There are a few guys I know who kill 110-120in bucks every year from Venice to Manchac and those dudes are some
Cold blooded killers who could
Kill anywhere!!!

Been there. Done that. Would not recommend.

There is just something about sitting in the middle of a cypress/tupelo gum swamp. Its tranquility at its finest, even though you can hear the distant roar of tires on I10 throughout your hunt, lol. See more woodpeckers than any other critter but something always makes you go back. Fun times.

Im the 4th generation to do it in my family and raising the 5th. Some sections are tougher than others but it certainly isnt easy anywhere. Cant leave the boat without hip boots, cant get any kind of mechanical transportation anywhere. You can use your legs and sometimes a pirogue and thats it. The deer are wired 24/7 and when you do kill one, nothing you can do except gut it and start dragging to the boat.
However, ive also been on an OTC unit in Colorado for 2nd rifle season when the first front came through. Thats tougher. Maybe its just in what you know vs dont, but ive never almost died in marepaus swamp. Mountains will kill you.

I grew up hunting the swamps, and now my family owns over 1,000 acres of private land in North Mississippi with some of the best deer hunting around. Yet I still find myself making more hunts every year on the public-land swamps of Louisiana. There's just something about the challenge, the adventure, and that truly off-the-grid feeling you get when you push way back into those places. It’s hard to explain unless it’s in your blood. I know there will come a day when I won’t be physically able to do it anymore, so I’m taking full advantage of every opportunity while I still can

I tried hunting that place years ago because I had a pirogue and it was the closest public land around. Made about 6-8 trips out there before I decided I wasn’t mad enough at the deer to keep hunting there and that it was worth driving further to hunt on solid ground

Scouted and hunted Joyce one season via Lees Landing. Never again.

I’ll never forget driving to Nola on the morning of the national championship game against Oklahoma and seeing hunters load a big buck into the back of a truck along side I10.
My dad remarked, “that’s a deer of a lifetime to come outta there”.
No actual clue on the size but to a 12 year old cruising down the interstate, it looked massive lol

Grew up deer hunting fresh water marsh. Nothing like taking a mud boat down a trenause to your deer stand overlooking a wide open pyphene marsh field dotted with cedea ridges. Downside is if you shoot 200 yds you are dragging 200yds and may end up with a wet arse as well.

There’s an article on LA sportsman on tackling Joyce.
Lots of hard work to do that

Yep. I’ve killed deer in the marsh before, but getting out in that swamp is a task.
I’ll get there eventually

Ive spent alot of time hunting Mcleroy swamp befire it was an WMA. We had a camp on Petit Amite and New River canal up until around 2000.
You really cant stand hunt out there because the deer dont walk trails in water. Only high ground are a few small ridges and they dont usually walk those in daylight. I was taught by old timers how to stalk deer in knee to waste deep water. Ive shot bucks back there walking right to me and bedded on little islands made of tree root systems.
Dragging them out is a mother especially a good size buck.

The swamp WMAs and Tunica.
All I say is you better REALLY want that deer if you’re going to shoot, and I hope you have a solid plan or a damn good buddy

Tunica is unforgiving. The thermals can ruin your hunt. I notice everyone that hunts there is in really good shape lmao
