Never had any issues with a Sta-Rite 3/4hp. Been running one for years, but they are not a cheaper option.
The thermal imagery looks the same during the day as it does at night. The best conditions for conducting the survey are on an overcast day or during early morning/late evening, when direct sunlight is not heating the tree tops. Night surveys are possible, but identifying deer is easier during daylight since you can zoom in without using the drone’s spotlight. Some drones have up to 200× zoom and can maneuver to get different angles, allowing you to see deer even in thick cover. You can see a deer blink from 300 feet. its pretty impressive.

I have a Siclincer Co. Hybrid 46 on mine. Love it.

re: Drone Recovery for Deer
Posted by MarshMan on 11/16/25 at 7:02 am to Bowstring1
We’ve started using drones for recovery, and let me tell you—this technology changes everything. I know how to track with the best of them, but think about it: when a deer runs off the plot, maybe through a briar patch or into a deep bottom, why crawl through thickets on your hands and knees, leaving scent everywhere and disturbing the woods, just to find out the deer was lying dead right outside the patch?
Why risk blood-trailing a wounded deer and pushing it even farther? Everyone knows that once you jump a wounded deer, your chances of recovery drop dramatically.
Using a drone will open your eyes to how many deer over the years were never recovered—often because hunters walked right past them.
Now, I agree that this technology could be abused, and I support keeping it illegal on public lands. But let’s be honest: due to the cost, 90% of people using drones are private landowners with strict management programs who aren’t abusing them.
Drone recovery is a game-changer, and it’s time to accept new technology. There’s no real difference between using a thermal scope for hog hunting or a .35 Whelen as a “primitive” weapon today.

re: Get my barrel threaded or get a new gun?
Posted by MarshMan on 10/16/25 at 6:26 am to bradygolf98
Just get your current rifle's barrel cut down and threaded. I have a can on my CVA Scout 35 Whelen, and it was way too long. I got it cut down to 16"
We have a Mahindra that will constantly overheat and has been that way since new. The radiator, oil cooler, and AC condenser screens are just a poor design. The engine fan basically blows everything back onto them. The only fix is the remove all the screens and air filter and blow them out daily, then rinse with water. Let them dry before running the tractor to prevent dust from sticking.
They do make an aftermarket reversing fan that can be installed, which would help out tremendously, but they are pretty pricey.

Spray Foam! Not the most cost-efficient, but definitely the most effective by far.

Calcutta Auction and bets. Its a big money game.
Thanks for the feedback. Looks like running a fiber line to the shop is the best way to go in the long run.
Powerline Wifi Extender
Posted by MarshMan on 7/10/25 at 6:58 am
Looking to get a better wifi signal to my shop, which is about 100' from my house. The electricity for the shop is fed from the main panel in my house. I was told that I could use a powerline wifi extender to get a better signal in the shop.
Does anybody have any experience with these? If so, do they work, and what brand do you recommend?

My son is small for his age, and it was hard to find a rifle with a short enough trigger pull. Ended up going with the AR platform, and it works out perfectly.
re: Nighttime Boat Headlight

If you use them responsibly, they’re great to have. I’ve run the local river my whole life grew up without light bars but now, when I take the kids out after dark, I always have mine on. When I see an oncoming boat, I flip it off just like dimming your headlights on a two-lane road at night. It’s all about courtesy and safety.
Does your company start with a G? We must work for the same company, as I just received the same news.
Thanks! I'm going to give it a go.
Leeville Fishing Report

Has anybody been fishing out of Leeville recently? I will be headed down there this weekend for an annual fishing trip. Looking for any recent reports.
Thanks!
Thanks!

We bought a Kubota 75-3 to use on our hunting property. It's used mainly to keep the roads up, fix washouts, etc., but we do have a diamond cutter we use from time to time to knock down the overgrowth around fields and roads.
With it being only used for that and not commercial work, the maintenance cost and upkeep are low.
We also bury all the deer guts with it now. Dig a hole on a Friday, then cover it up before we leave on Sunday

XLM vs XRP
Posted by MarshMan on 4/30/25 at 6:43 am
I am by no means a Cryptocurrency expert or know much about trading, but I play around on Robinhood from time to time. I have a good amount of XLM shares and very few XRP shares. I was considering selling my shares in XLM and putting it all into XRP based on threads I've read on this board.
If you were able to predict the future of these two, what would you do?

I have a Kubota KX-057-5, and it's a great machine. The only downfall I have noticed is that it lacks swinging power. I'm not sure how that compares to other brands, but as with buying any equipment, choose the brand that you have access to the dealer near by.
When buying a used machine, look at the condition of the tracks, sprockets, and rollers, and if there is slack in the pins on the boom.
