Looking make a trip to Yellowstone area...where to stay and fly into?

I’m a little nervous to do this in the Covid environment bc I don’t want to have some things at 50% capacity and not be allowed to really take it all in. I saw the Wyoming governor said he’s opening the state 100%. Has anyone been up there in the last 12 months?
Any tips on where to stay for a summer trip? VRBO or other options?

Fly into SLC. Spend the night. Get up early and drive north. Split your time between West Yellowstone and Jackson Hole.

Stay in Bozeman or W. Yellowstone. Any driving you have to do is pleasant because of the views.

I heard there’s a cool ranch you could stay at. Just may have to get a brand and whatever you do, don’t let them take you to the train station

I am taking the family for our first trip to Yellowstone this summer. We are leaving Memorial Day weekend and spending 8 nights. We are flying in/out of Jackson Hole.
We are spending 4 nights inside the park, 2 nights at Jenny Lake Lodge (Grand Teton NP) and the final 2 nights in Jackson Hole. Did a lot of research online and on the travel board. I got an email a couple of weeks ago saying that the Old Faithful Lodge is going to be closed when I'm there, so I had to rebook another place for a night. Other than that everything seems to be open.
We are looking forward to it immensely.

I live in SWMT for half of the year. Are you fishing? Sight seeing with the family? I would probably fly into Bozeman if you are primarily fishing. I would fly into Salt Lake or Jackson if it is a sight seeing trip. Everyone should do the Parks — once.
For reasonably priced vacation filled with epic days hikes, great fishing and a less hectic pace, I would consider staying in the Driggs, Idaho area. The back side of the Tetons are spectacular. The fishing on the Teton is very good. The South Fork and the Henry’s Fork are easy drives. You could drive over the pass and shop in Jackson or raft the Snake.

Thanks. I was looking at Jackson Hole or Driggs so that helps. We might fish but it’s primarily a family sight seeing trip. I want to do the Tetons and Yellowstone each for a few days.

My sister-in-law is on a plane as we speak to Montana to visit Yellowstone and do some snowmobiling and whatnot.

Just booked a trip this week. First time going and a bucket list trip for us. Flying into Bozeman and driving down to West Yellowstone. Staying 5 days. Going early June. FYI hotels seem to book fast

If you have never been to Yellowstone consider this, I stayed 7 days drove over a thousand miles never leaving the park, and still did not see everything I wanted to see, the park is immense.

that is a perfect time to go. not as crowded, and you will see lots of baby animals. We did that a few years ago, it was a perfect time to go in my opinion.

We stayed in some cabins in Silver Gate, MT, which is just outside the NE gates to the park. No TV, limited internet but a very nice place. We had a lone Bison outside our cabin every morning. Great views from there. Easy access to the park and you have to drive through Hayden Valley each day to get to different parts of the park. it was 4 of us (me, wife and two teens). I would stay there again in a heartbeat. In Jackson we stayed at the Lexington Hotel. WE drove from Chicago area, so can't speak of where to fly into. We went early June, great time to go.

There's a thread on the 1st page of the travel board currently.
Also, if you search you can find many threads on the subject. That's how I planned my trip for this coming June.
Eta....great tip that I read.
Don't stay in one place in Yellowstone. The park is huge and with bison traffic jams and the amount of people that go you need stay at various places to save you from driving as much.

If you see a maroon chevy 3500 with an arctic fox camper with an LSU flag hanging....give a honk.

We have done that trip three times. Its a awesome trip and a great time to go. We fly into Bozeman and get a nice cabin at the Big Sky Ski resort. Its about 30-40 mins from the park and a great place itself.
By staying up there, you kinda get two places in one trip. Lots to do up on the mountain and its off season so prices are very reasonable.
