Is Remington in business anymore? It is as good as it was?

Man Remington made some really good guns that were reasonably priced. Like Sears made appliances. Sears is gone. What is going to happen to Remington?
I have a Remington 870 wingmaster that is 40 yrs old and outshoots everything else. Also have a Kenmore fridge that is 38 yrs old and doing great. Where did American workmanship go? China?
Iam hoping that Remington is going to make it.

They're trying to bring it back. I have 2 80s model Remington 700s and a early 90s model with a magazine.

The company that bought the firearms division is doing a good job so far. They’ve brought back the wingmaster (which I plan on buying very soon) and they’re also going to be putting timney triggers on all new 700s they make now. So far so good.

The old 870 pump is tGOAT. I can't speak for newer models.

I really don’t know where they went wrong with the 870s. I have a late 90s model that has been submerged several times and has never jammed. I haven’t been around any really new ones but the ones from 2015-2018ish really sucked. I hope they get it fixed.

Old 870s were well known to have dual purpose as a gun and a boat paddle with zero issues

Remington ammo was bought by Federal’s owner. RemArms is a new and separate company, as the firearms part was bought by a private group supposedly made up of people with gun industry experience. I haven’t seen any in person but the guns are showing up on shelves and youtubers seem to like the quality relative to the price, even a couple of them who weren’t paid to say so. Hopefully they make it.

Well, it started with the finish they put on the guns. It would rust sitting in a vat of grease.

I believe that was mainly with the express models, but yeah, it was terrible.

I have 3 700s that I bought in 2020. The threads of the barrel and the action were rusted.

Can't wait to get my hands on a new wingmaster

The actions were grainy. The wood felt really cheap compared to the older ones and the finish chipped and rusted something awful.
I had a little bit of dust or dry mud to an already grainy action, and it was a pain in the arse to cycle shells.

I have an 870 express i bought from Kmart in 92-94 for 225$ and it’s been a machine killed everything (ducks, deer, pigs and everything else) no jams no rust. My brother who is ten years younger we bought him one in 02-05 not sure but pre katrina and it rusted on a damp day and broke ejectors and springs. Same thing with the model 700s of the same era.
I really hope they get there shite together because a model, 870, 700 is two of the best representations of a pump and bolt actions you can if if done right.

Bought my 870 wingmaster in 1965 , run a lot of shells through it and it still works fine. Its a 16 gauge, so getting shells takes a bit of planning.

Sooo, being that shells are a pain to find how about I make you a more than fair price on it?

Remington as you know it is gone! Poor QC, dumb business decisions, and investment company bean counters ran it into the ground. Filed for bankruptcy in 2000 and sold various divisions: rifle, shotgun, ammunition, clothing apparel
Only time will tell if each of the new owners can resurrect the Remington name and its former quality.

not necessary, it was my first gun and has some heritage value.

Bought mine in 1992 (3” magnum receiver) and it works flawlessly and the finish is very durable.

Wife bought me one for my birthday back around the same time (newlyweds too). I put a plastic camo stock and forend on it right off the bat. Pretty sure the plastic was even sold under the Remington name.
It’s killed a boatload of everything and my boy has started to use it pretty regularly. I think he likes it better than his A300 (but won’t admit it).
I need to dig out the old wood and see how it looks back together, the wood never got a scratch on it.
I love that gun.
