I'm talking about working for 15 more years and getting about $1 million dollars saved up. Buying some property in Montana in the mountains and building a small cabin. Live a minimalist life. No computers. No cable or tv. Have a garden and livestock. Maybe work a menial job like ranching or helping with a farm on the side. Something easy and flexible to pass the time. Hunt and fish for sustenence as well. Enjoy outdoors and live the life. Read and write. Hang out with locals. How feasible is this? Am I speaking delusions of grandeur?
Can I come too?

You mean like when you can't leave the house for a week at a time because it is 20* below?

You gonna have enough food with just a garden?

You know who much food a simple 4x8 raised bed garden can produce?
a shitton
a shitton

although if he wants to be self sufficient, he will need more than that so he can put up food for the winter

Exactly
And you better make a good crop.
I'm sure he realizes this but I'm just saying it won't be a fantasy carefree world

I wish that unit was an official part of the American Standards of Weights and Measures.

which isn't really that big

To clarify my previous post, winters are cold. Winter activities don't suck.

Pussification of America.
to each their own, but at least answer the question. I'll have whiskey with me, and the fire will be waiting for me when I get back.
Eta....not always a blast but I refuse to let weather hold me back, unless its life threatening.

If you were a real man, you'd go without your Arcteryx gear. You'd wear bear fur.

I wish I had some, I'd at least give it a go. Eskimos do it.

Not to mention, -20 isn't the norm in most of Montana. Avg. Jan high in Bozeman is around freezing, avg. low is in the teens.
In Juneau, the lowest I've seen is barely below zero and that's only once every 2-3 years.
You get used to cooler climates. My wife hated cold in La and Arkansas, but loves winter here. With the right gear you don't get cold and there's plenty of winter outdoor activities to keep you busy.
