I've been once when I snowboarded Big Sky. Drove down and did a snow mobile tour of Yellowstone. Been in love ever since

My dad's buddy owned 20 acres with a simple cabin on it. We went up there 2 summers in a row and trout fished and tried our hand at a self guided spring near hunt. We had a great time.

MT is good in that there is no income tax,

We had income tax. No sales tax. Property tax and vehicle registration was insane coming from La.

Go for it. I hope you really want to do it though. Hard to back out of that commitment

I'm likely doing this in about 8 years. Haven't completely decided on Montana. I really like the Tenn/ky line area. Just wish I could talk the ole lady into Ks

Yeah it'd be a big time move. I would pretty much have to say bye to my family and friends. Unless they decide to come visit me.

Go to Northern New Mexico or Az. Great climate and weather. And the winters aren't 10 months. Plus its a one day drive from La. If I was single I would move all over the country. Got 10 more years and my youngest is done with high school. I'll be on the move again.

Got a job, packed up crap, and went. That simple. Bought a house in Anaconda. Great small town feels like the old mining days. Same life happens there 2400 miles away that happens here in La. It's just colder and drier.

Living away from family could be hard if you are really close like we were. But I was there before internet was popular. Now you can keep up no matter where you live. Airfare was expensive from N.O. to Montana. Being close to Denver would save plenty on airfare.

k. Maybe work a menial job like ranching or helping with a farm on the side.

Hate to tell you, but there is no menial job in ranching. You might get a part time gig on a farm, but ranching is a full time effort.

Me too. But I got two problems

1. Physical mobility issues that are not getting better
2. Wife won't go. (That maybe a plus come to think of it)

But a life in the mountains is a dream.
