I understand that is stinks that he shot a yearling, but maybe that guy has been putting in a lot of time and effort and not seeing deer. He finally saw one and wanted some meat. It is what it is.

Nothing makes grown men argue like children worse than their current understanding (because it’s guaranteed to change) of how deer hunting should be done, then throw social media’s ills on top of it and you get a shite show. Hunting is competitive to a certain extent, especially on public land, the problem is everyone has different imaginary rules based on what they think makes it more of an accomplishment, or what constitutes courtesy. It will never stop, and it’s as old as hunting, just used to happen more on tailgates at the country gas station.

"It's public land, I will hunt the tree right next to you if you are there first"

Does that same person pass golfers in the tee area and park in the fairway to play the hole? Do they walk in the middle of a basketball game at a park and start playing their own game?

I agree you don't own a public park or WMA, but the lack of respect for someone already there I will never understand.

Usually, when people post “needed another year”, they’re joking.
I do think it’s time for sportsmen in the Deep South to move past the mindset of needing three deep freezers full at all times. Throw a few fish back and let a few bucks walk. We’re blessed with long seasons and plenty of game, but far too many don’t respect the resource.

This is why I really enjoy the club I'm in. It's not necessarily a "brown it's down" club, but no one gets bent out of shape about someone else killing any deer. Some people want meat, some want horns, but we're all just there to have a good time. We laugh and poke fun at each other, but it's always in good fun.

The angry and stupid people are always the loudest. They are always the vocal minority. It goes for every thing you do. HOAs, Clubs, Hunting, Fishing, Youth Sports, Local and National Politics and on and on.

Last night on the Area 4 Facebook post there was a guy standing over a shot yearling. For once I wanted to say something. But didn’t.

Do you mean a fawn? Yearlings are deer that were born the previous year.

And those are the same ones bitching about how they could kill big deer just like the Lakoskys if they had all those advantages. They completely ignore the fact Lee quit his career and built his hunting business by risking his future and working his butt off. It's always, "Let's see them do that on public land!" - meanwhile, they'll set up 75 yards from the parking spot in a WMA and wonder why they don't see deer.

Class envy infiltrates all parts of American culture.

I'm not a member of that group so I can't comment on what was said. But I'm not going to give anyone an "attaboy" for shooting a yearling. I personally wouldn't get any enjoyment out of it, and I don't consider it a challenge.

But I'm also not going to criticize anyone for legally harvesting an animal. Everyone has their own reasons for taking the animal they took. If they are proud of it, good for them, but they also shouldn't get upset if people aren't as proud of their kill as they are.

Its a social media thing.

In real life people are far more tolerant, at least openly.

Insecurity. Jealousy. You name it. If the deer was legally tagged and was ethically harvested, you shouldn’t care.

People hunt to eat. Some people think it’s all about trophies.

I have killed many deer in my life. I have mounted several. I will never mount another. I hunt because it is in my blood. I hunt deer because I like to eat them. I hunt my lease I have had for 26 years. What I kill is my business. NO one else. I shoot one if I need meat(one or two a year). I let does with fawns walk. To each their own if legal and ethical. They are all trophies to me.

Hunting culture - why are some people total a-holes

We have a total a-hole sneaking onto our private family land and hunting. He parks in a slum lord trailer park and then sneaks in on the private land that joins ours and then onto ours. Trail cams up but haven't gotten him on film yet. Local town cops and sheriffs department totally useless helping bust this clown.
I will eventually nail his arse.

People like to think they’re better than others.

I’m old enough to not give a frick and shoot what I want. To each his own as long as it’s legal.

I've started listening to the Hunt Quietly podcast, and while I don't agree with everything Matt says I believe that social media is a huge factor in hunting.
