If you are using a live animal trap, Please practice how you are going to open the trap to release the coon.
My trap has a release on top hear the handle. Keeps my hands away from the openings. I caught one back in Georgia but I didnt have to worry about him coming back. I let him go on an island on the lake.

It was tongue in cheek....but I do have a serious hatred for coons now . Not saying I would torture any animal, but a racoon would be first on the list to get tortured if I did ever cross that line.

From the blood stain to the nearest garbage can

Don't take prisoners. If you trap him, dispose of him. I would like to do that but it would be hard where I live. Trust me.
Bring him to a wooded area, .22 to the head, no more coon!

Damned things aint easy to trap...they are pretty dang smart. You'd think as comfortable as they are around garbage and humans they'd be easy but something about a trap triggers some internal sense of doom....

Take it out of your county. A mile away definitely isn't enough....

Upside down tub and a can of ether if you don't have a suitable firearm. Don't lift the tub too soon.

If at all possible, do this. Worst case, put it in a couple of garbage bags and drop it in a dumpster somewhere.

I have eaten it...kind of like a big squirrel. Not as good as possum done right, in my opinion, but tolerable....

Pellet gun (or suppressed 22 subsonic), or trap him in a live trap and dunk the trap into a bin of water for about 60 seconds or so.

You can whop a coon on the head with a hammer or a green limb to kill him.
Or an axe handle. Or put the trap with the coon in the pool and drown it.
ETA: drowning him is pretty cruel, but if you’re channeling your inner Michael Vick, it’s an effective, quiet way to dispatch him. Personally, I’d shoot him with a pellet gun or .22 short and be done with it.
