The legal way is 3 cuts through the receiver with a torch, a grinder or saw or anything else is not legal.

Is this what you determined through the BATF statement or do you know this some other way?

Easiest way to get around ballistics would be to cut the lands with a deburring tools after the fact. Wouldn’t take much of a cut to be home free.:)

Have any fishing trips scheduled soon? Sounds like a boating accident may be beneficial.

The truth of the Benchmade deal is that the local police called up and asked to borrow their machines to destroy some evidence. They keep good relations with the local PD and said come on over. Police show up with a tub of evidence guns that have been Court ordered destroyed. They help cut them up. People with an agenda got hold of the story and blew it out of proportion.

Time tested method is throwing it in a body of deep water. Preferably salty.

This is 100% true. I am team Spyderco, but would buy a Benchmade if wanted.

Benchmade’s machines appear to consist of a $20 angle grinder and a sawzall

Your local gun shop would take it and have it destroyed. They do in FL anyway.

Chop saw. It's what the police do with guns in the UK when people decide to get rid of them. They can't really sell them so they have them destroyed. Pretty routine.

You ask for advise on how to get rid of a gun then go on to tell us how you have already had it happen to you. I think your answer is in your own post!

Roger that. It's weird how it was eaten away. Anything not stainless is pretty much gone but the gun is so old you can't find parts. Anywhere. I think it is an old Sears pistol. I would love to figure out a way to find parts for it.
If the frame/receiver is largely intact, go to gunbroker, and do a search for "gunbusters".

There is a group of sellers, maybe about 4-5, with that in their name. They are folks that destroy impounded firearms. They destroy just the frame or other serialized piece, and they list and sell all of the remaining parts in a kit. Barrel, springs, screws, everything.

They rotate guns over 5-6 days, so I'd say it's worth a month or so of scanning what they have.
