More boards = more ads = more money.

Quality of posts and answers will definitely go down. Need to have more stickies than whole new board.

i will take that under advisement. I still contend that this board must stay true to the original reason for it being created. And if it doesn't, it just becomes another OT.

So, just for my own edification, the distinction seems like:

Home and Garden Board - if you're going to a hardware store for it (HD, Lowe's, Ace, etc...)

Outdoor Board - if you're going to a sporting goods store for it (Bass Pro, Cabela's, Simmons, puglias, etc...)

Correct in general?

outdoors is outdoors...which is where the lawns and gardens are

well, I am sure that was the original intent. Obviously, there have been tangents, with lawn care being the most prominent one. I realize there is overlap. Eg, if you own or lease hunting land, you are often going to use hardware store for maintence items.

It seems that in the last year, the topics have gone off topic to an extent.

More of an issue to me or threads about projects inside the home. They shouldn't be here.

This board is nothing like the OT. If you ask questions here, you do not get smart arse answers (i.e. tree fiddy, your mom, etc). This board is fine the way it is.

But it is an OT for people with common interests. We don't traffic in pop culture and the 24hr news cycle, but are salt of the earth gents with a different perspective from the mainstream. That encompasses hunting and fishing, camping, hiking, gardening, doing things with our hands (home improvement, woodworking, auto work, etc...). We live from and appreciate the land in a different way. And we are happy where we are. I feel like you're splitting up the family. Dont do it chicken. Dont do it.

If you start with a home and garden board, where does it stop? Automotive board? Camping board? Mountain biking board? Maybe I'm just salty, but I'd hate to see it go.

It's okay on the OT, which I do visit everyday.

But it’s the outdoor board. Lawn and garden clearly falls under that. This is one of the most respectful and educative boards you have on this site.

It’s in no danger of becoming another OT imo.

I’m a relative newcomer to the topics on this board and it’s extraordinarily valuable to get advice on topics ranging from hunting to firearms to my garden to my lawn and random household repairs from the same place while getting that advice from someone I learned to trust because they didn’t steer me wrong during hunting season.

If you take away threads like that I think you’re going to see a sharp decline in viewers to this board in the summer months when people are only fishing.

Nothing has been decided. Lawn threads may get grandfathered and can stay here. Not sure yet. Will raise it with the emergency steering committee meeting tomorrow.

it was only called outdoor board because Hunting & Fishing board excluded hiking, camping, outdoor adventure stuff...it was never intended to be a home improvement board.

We do a lot of things outdoors that shouldn't be on here.

i think "farm and garden" is a better title and description then home and garden

also renaming "outdoors" board to "hunting and fishing" board sounds much better

home improvement works well on the OT board, i just cant see enough home improvement topics being posted regularly to need its own board

just my 2 1/2 cents

If you split this board out, doing so will simply turn the Home and Garden board into an OT Lounge of hand guns, holsters, ammo, land management, weed control, tractors, fertilizers, power tools, coolers and trucks, etc. Not all of those are Home and Garden topics, which in my mind have more to do with appliances, weed/pest control, plants mowers, concrete, siding, smokers/grills, patio configurations and landscape lighting.

The makeup of the folks on the outdoor board is what drives the topical variety. Not everybody loves every topic, but that goes for any board on here and we navigate accordingly to topic, need or expertise.

I mean it’s your website, your product, and if you think it’s in the best interest of your product then do what you have to do.

However I firmly believe that this move isn’t in the best interest of the Outdoor Board.

My last comment on this board division:

You're creating a solution to a problem that doesn't exist.
