S & W mod 60, 5-shot .38 special. Its small, light and easy to handle. I put pink grips with a red dot on it, she loves it. Great starter pistol for the lady. if she doesn't like it, ill buy it from you.

Glock 43 is small and easy to use, but does not have a safety.

there is no significant difference in PISTOL lethality and 1 shot kills

False. That's a personal perspective based on your own bio-metrics. In other words, it's true for you. Other people are built differently and it may no be true for them.

Me or my wife do not carry any guns that have a manual safety.
I wasn’t really trying to convey to the OP that a 43 was the go to gun but more along the lines that even though my wife carries the 43 and was scared of the “big black Glock” at first. For range shooting or just burning up ammo she prefers the full size gun now.

I agree with the full size being a good place to start, but let's face it, she wants to shoot and carry now. Therefor, i would go Sig P365. Get an extended mag for the pinky and have her test shoot if you can.

False

Thanks for all of the input. We looked at a number of guns and got a S&W M&P Bodyguard 38. It fits her hand and is easy to shoot. Now I have to find ammo. Academy has none!

The Academy stores around here get some weekly I think. You can only buy two boxes at a time. This isn't looking like it's going to call down soon, either. Last month I bought my wife a P238 which is our only firearm in 380. I regret it a little now. We have lots of 9mm but she blew through the 200 rounds of 380 we had yesterday. We only have the 380 Gold Dots left...which of course I forgot to check to see if they functioned in her pistol yesterday.

My wife now has two VP9s thanks to bapple and him letting her shoot his during his concealed class. But, out of all the pistols I have, it’s prob my favorite shooter minus the paddle mag release(Have shot button releases for 15 years so don’t want to mess with mechanics). Next pistol I get will be the vp9 with button mag release.

My wife has weak hands. She couldn't easily rack the slide on a full size handgun.
Get her a shake weight. It will help her hand strength for racking a gun, among other things.

There’s a Vicker’s Mod that makes that area much better. Still not a button, but just slicker. Done by Lazy Wolf and maybe Grey Guns
I’d love that, but I’ll wait until they have nickel plating back.
Love my HK. Cool bit of kit.

The VP9 is actually my wife’s and tends to be a female favorite with how slim and comfortable the grip is. It’s a great shooter. I also find myself using the mag release paddle on the opposite side with my trigger finger when using that gun. I find it’s easier to get to than using my thumb.
EDIT: forgot to ask you to refresh my memory - what was the location of our class?

Take her to a range that has an inventory of rentals to shoot and let her pick and choose.

One of each, B. SK for her purse/car and full size for the night stand. I love both guns, but As far as the paddle release vs button, I hate to mess with my mechanics that I’m so familiar with. Just one of those subconscious things where if I actually needed it in an emergency, I would be trying to drop a mag by pushing in and not down.
We did you training at FRC, maybe a year and a half ago.

Wise choice brother. Most importantly your wife decided which pistol fit her hand best and was most comfortable to HER. I encourage she sign up for a shooting class or the CHL class.
