I have only fished brackish and saltwater in the past. What type of artificial should I throw this time of the year? Planning on picking some stuff up from Academy this weekend. Central Texas area.

Get a few packs of Senkos. Fish them texas rigged, weightless, and wacky rigged.

You really don’t have to overthink it in a stocked pond. If the weather is a bit prefrontal throw something moving, as someone else pointed out a small pond magic buzzbait is a blast. I usually pull the skirt off and put a white speedcraw on it. If it’s bluebird throw a weightless senko fished slow or bump a trick worm on the bottom with a 1/4oz weight. Watermelon, green pumpkin, or black and blue, all your standard colors really.

Just throw a spinnerbait. They will eat it every month of the year. War eagle makes a damn good one.
Wake it on top if it's warm, slow roll along the bottom when cold.

There's nothing more fun that fishing a stocked pond. It's almost like cheating. Have a buddy with a 2 acre pond and I found a spot in it that every cast was a fish for about 2 hours. He had a little john boat and I paddled it out and sat there early morning catching fish non stop while he slept in.

You can put your cell phone on a hook and they'll take it. I like the beetle spin for the cost. I also use small white crappie jigs. They'll hit it non stop.

Big fish will straighten the hook on a beetle spin.

I apologize for being blunt, but why not ask the relative? They probably know best if its stocked? Assuming its stocked and they are the ones stocking it?

if you want to catch the bigger Bass, throw a chatterbailt with a rage craw or fluke trailer.

Wacky worm is money on smaller bass. I like something in the green watermelon spectrum. Get the o-ring kit and hook your worm on that and the worm will last much longer

1. spinner bait
2. fluke
3. buzz bait
4. watermelon or like color worm
Enjoy your day. Take two rods. One with the buzz bait or spinnerbait and the other rigged with the fluke or worm. If you miss one with the spinner or buzz bait immediately throw the worm or fluke in the same spot. Pond fishing can be an absolute blast

If it is like a lot of stocked ponds it might be over populated. If it is try a NED rig, and like others have said the Senko. The good thing is you can break the Senkos to use as the Ned rig plastic body. Good luck.

He is old and hasn't fished it in years. Some neighbor kid does every now and then.

Bonus points for your user name.

Yep- I live in centex. Any type of smaller spinner, worm etc. Will work. Heck DSL on a jig head will catch bass.

I love throwing the smaller rattle traps. Will catch crappie and bass if they're in there.

Depends on a lot of things… structure? Vegetation? Rocks? Etc…
