Hate to hear that about your dad. It was tough losing unexpectedly at 58 years old. Man was in good shape and took care of himself but God had other plans

A million dollars to shoot a white tail with a rifle. Exhilarating

Concur. Reminds me of what PT Barnum said about a bazillion years ago.

I hunt on a place that my wife’s grandfather paid $10 per acre many years ago. I’m sure many thought it was foolish for him to buy useless swamp land back then.

I’m not saying I would do this, but there’s a reason why all these wealthy guys do it. They aren’t dumb with money, it’s not as bad as you think.

First, they hardly do shite. It’s set up, there’s a a manager, and everything else in place. They maybe have some work days or meetings, but otherwise they show up and hunt and fish and that’s about it.

They have a very nice place to use and park some money. Hopefully make a little but most likely maintain most of its value.

Plus, its like being a member of a high end country club. You pay to get in. Some of these guys that are in business, you join a place like this and become friend with one guy there and do business together and that $1 mil cost is chump change compared the work you do together or the contacts you have made.

Eta: and LOL at anyone that says they get as much joy out of shooting a basket rack 8 as anything.

There is a share at Lookout Point on the River south of Lake Providence, for sale for $800,000. Looks like a beautiful camp goes with it.

Yeah, but to some of us the trophy isn’t the rack it’s the experience. I can only speak for myself but I’ve been blessed to have some good enough years where I could travel the country and shoot whatever I felt like if I wanted to. I went to Texas once and that was fun, but I probably won’t go back.

I get more enjoyment out of working out 550+ acres of family land and my kids killing 110” 8-10pts than I did anything in Texas. Don’t have to ask anyone if it’s okay to shoot, can take people from church if I want, etc.

No I’ll never kill a 150” buck here but I’m okay with that. I’ve let almost every buck I’ve seen here walk the last 10 years. To me it’s more about the experience than the result.

For a $1,000,000 you could buy a couple hundred acres, a tractor, high fence it and put a nice camp on it.

I can agree with this. Basically having the setup and you just show up and rub elbows with other well off people and have a good time, I have no problem with whatsoever. My grandfather was in a river camp and did this for 50 years. They did do a good bit of the work though. He’d take his own farm tractors and dozer and other shite to the island and they’d use his equipment to do a lot of the work over the course of two or three work weekends.

What gets under my skin is when they basically handcuff what you can do on the deer stand and then turn the camp yard into one big arse HOA. Should there be rules? Yes. But be reasonable and remember the purpose of the outdoors.

He never said people cannot be excited for newbies and kids killing young basket racks. And you don't have to be a trophy hunter to let little basket racks pass by. It is just a foreign concept to me. I get more excited watching basket racks come by than shooting one. Sometimes I will practice pulling my bow back without being seen on them.

Also, something maybe I just don't understand, do some people just not have a doe population for meat harvesting? That is what I kill and process if I don't have a more mature buck by end of year.

For $1,000,000 land buy, you are not getting duck hunting, turkey hunting, squirrel hunting, deer hunting, abundant fishing, large property to explore, trapping, a tractor with all attachments, a nice camp, and on and on.

You also don't understand many people with $1M have busy jobs and families so they don't have time to invest in work days etc.

Everybody's situation is different. I'm a meat hunter but I only kill 2-3 deer a year, don't have space for more than that. I also may only get 4-5 chances to hunt a year. Some years are better than others, but if a small buck walks out, more than likely I'm shooting him. Not every time. Last year my first hunt no doe came out but a 6pt did right before dark, so I shot him.

A couple hunts later I passed up a 4pt and saw a doe, but couldn't get a shot. Well, I didn't have time to hunt again for a month, so I was kicking myself for passing up the small buck. I don't bait, so I don't always see deer when I hunt.

That makes sense. I guess for me if I fear I won't kill a doe I put word out to friends that I want one and then I get 2 or 3 really quick when all I want is one.

Yeah, I would not be in any club/lease without pretty strict rules.

For that kind of money the deer had better walk up to me, introduce himself politely, grab my gun and shoot himself.

Just having the coin doesn’t get you in these clubs, all operate on the secret handshake rules. I would certainly join if I had the coin and connections but barring a lotto hit it ain’t happening.

If you’re smart about it and shop hard a million dollars could absolutely fill out most of that list. No, it might not front onto the Mississippi, but I can assure you quality can be found at that price point.
