A friend of mine bought a membership in Ashbrook Island, kept it 7-8 years and doubled their money when they sold it.It was good duck hunting and fishing but the deer hunting kinda sucked.Their restrictions were so strict, very few deer were killed.

NOTHING about deer hunting Ashbrook sucks.

That’s a cull buck right?

Yes, because the deer did not reach 175”, has more than 10 points, but less than 12, and is mature, he is considered a cull. We just can’t have such inferiority roaming this piece of land... This man will not be fined $2500, nor will he have his trophy buck shooting privileges revoked for the next 2 years. Being that this is the perfect cull, he is also rewarded with the opportunity to shoot any 7 point on the property.

I would be just as excited killing a basket rack 8 pernt on public land as that buck.

Because all you guys are shooting these. There will never be these:

The ultimate would be killing a buck like that on public land. Now that would be something to brag about.

I am all for people killing something that makes them happy but I don't see how killing a bunch of basket racks still makes anyone happy. That is why private land is so damn expensive in the south. $1M for a great hunting place isn't crap.

Public ground could be amazing down here but too many happy with young bucks.

That’s a beast, no doubt. The thought of spending a million dollars only to have a share in a place, though....not my cup of tea.

I guess it all depends on what one wants out of hunting.I could not afford Winter Quarters but I could’ve afforded Ashbrook for what I have spent on my own land ,tractors, etc. The allure of killing a trophy buck there was not strong enough to have to deal with all the rules, antler restrictions, etc. On my land I make the rules ,shoot what I want.A lot of my satisfaction is processing my own deer,we don’t buy meat. The chance I will ever kill a trophy are slim but I accept that.
There are rules all through life, school, military, college, work, etc.I’ll be damned if I want to follow a bunch of rules that determine what buck I shoot.I follow the law,I don’t hunt illegally,I tag my deer and report it on the website but that’s it.
Another issue with clubs is there always to seems to be some animosity between some of the members.I was in a club that had better deer than my land and I hunted it more than my land. Then one guy killed a monster, some of the other guys got jealous and then it hit the fan.I thought frick this and quit the club.
I could afford to go to a ranch in Texas and kill a trophy if I cared to but it wouldn’t mean that much to me.I’m in my own little niche and I’m satisfied.
To each his own

Did I read it right that someone posted there isn't a lodge there? If I have million dollars to spend on a hunting spot, I think I would have to have a place to stay

Is it just me or does this thread sound a little bit like class envy/warefare?

And watch it flood out a lot.

Awesome buck.

If I had a million for hunting ground, I would definitely buy my own place. Plenty of good ground in Louisiana where you can create the needed habitat and grow some great deer

I don’t know man. You’ll get your money back, plus some if you want to get out on some of these places. People are lining up to buy in when a share in a well run island comes up for sale.

I thank God my father held on to our grandfather and great grandfather’s property in NELA on the river. I certainly would not pay or really could afford to hunt places like this.

It’ll be 6 years that dad passed December 26, 2013. I can remember him and mom talking about selling the in the mid-90s because people were offering pretty crazy money to buy it back then. People after a while figured dad would never sell and the volume of calls went down. When word got out that he had passed our phones were blowing up. Less than 16 hours after dad passed we had already gotten 3 calls asking if were interested in selling. We obviously told them to frickoff but the second week we got no less than 100 calls from folks wanting to buy this property.

My 2 brothers and I have never even entertained the idea of selling because dad told us several times his last few years of life that “y’all better hold onto this property if something ever happens to me and this for you boys and the grandkids to enjoy.” Dad died at 58 years old and it was unexpected. He was our hunting buddy. I’d give anything to hug his neck and tell him I love him.

Are ya'll inside the levee ?

I used to hunt Spring Bayou with Red Reeves many years ago, it's outside the levee in Tensas but we would see 30-40 deer on a good day. I loved going over there.
