IMO, if you don't keep one in the chamber there is no use in even having the gun.
Reading up on the 21' rule or what is known as the Tueller Drill really opened my eyes.
If you need your gun you will probably NOT have enough time to rack the slide.
Good video demonstrating what I am talking about for those not familiar:

All I want to do is get the weapon out and on target - all that control manipulation, manual of arms, etc., etc., that would be the longest 2 seconds of my life.

When I was growing up, we had a family friend with handguns, he kept them loaded. His son knocked one off a table, it discharged and killed the boy.

For sure, and if everyone would watch these videos, they would realize they don't even have 2 seconds.
A guy charging with a knife can close on you faster than that.
I understand some folks have small kids around or have other reasons not to chamber a round. But if all possible, pick a safe handgun that you can fire quickly and put one in the pipe.

Two stories of fatality due to one in the chamber.
No stories of one in the chamber saving any life.
Hmmmmm....

There's plenty of one in the chamber saving lives.

Maybe so.
Haven't seen that here though.

Yes, of course.
One in the chamber vs chambering one, is a different story.
Let's see some stats.

How are you going to shoot it if there isn't one in the chamber?

that gun should have never been sitting on that table

Everytime a police officer shot someone, saving a life, there was one already in the chamber.

W, youre pretty wrong. If you have a self defense weapon, you need to have the capability and responsibility to have your weapon ready for self defense.

Good point.
Many here know somebody who was affected by an AD
Not too many know somebody who's used one in a domestic self defense situation.

You won't.
You have to chamber it.
What's your point?

I'm glad you understand my logic.
