But all you quick draw McGraws make me laugh. Lighten up guys, just because someone doesn't keep a round in the chamber doesn't mean they want the government to take all our guns away. we're on the same team here.
Agreed.

I have a loud, monitored home alarm. I figure if someone breaks in and stays around with that alarm blaring, they intend to do me or my family harm. In that case, I doubt they are walking around my home looking for us with an empty chamber or empty hands. My pistol is within arms reach of where I lay my head with a round chambered. A simple thumb swipe of the safety and I'm ready to go. I have no kids yet so I don't have that safety issue to deal with. When I do, I'll have to put a quick access safe nearby, that added step is just another reason not to leave the chamber empty.

So you keep ALL of your guns loaded with a round in the chamber? Deer rifles too?
I'm referring to immediately accessible defensive weapons, such as, but not limited to, a HD shotgun or a handgun in a car.
I was not advocating that every deer rifle in your near vicinity being loaded. The poster "W" was referring to having his cylinder popped out during the night. I think it's just a bit impractical and I thought I would point out the reasons.
But in the end it's obviously up to the end user. I would rather not go through the extra motion to render any of my defensive weapons operable. I would rather pick it up and know it's ready to go. But if the "W" is more comfortable leaving his cylinder out and it makes him feel good, obviously there's only so much I can do to convince him otherwise.

IMO, if you don't keep one in the chamber there is no use in even having the gun.
