You have to chamber it.

Because there are some situations that provide plenty of time to chamber a round, not every one, but some. It is about risk benefit. I feel that loaded weapons increase my level of risk greater than the benefit they have....how is that difficult to understand? Yea, the killer in a dark alley may get me. But damn, I can live with that.
Gun accidents are accidents all the same.

Because Im proficient enough to chamber my weapons quickly enough to use in self defense.
IF you have time to get to your weapon, you'll be able to chamber yours too.
Most people don't have enough time to get to weapon during invasion.

Correct, accidents. People make them all the time. He will never be the same after his.

Yep, there is no right or wrong answer.
Some folks have a legitimate reason to not keep one in the chamber. Fears of an AD/ND or of a young child having access.
Others like me have a legitimate reason to keep one in the chamber....
The fear of some dude shiving me in the kidney whilst I try to fend him off and rack the slide at the same time.

What happens if you only can use one hand?

Doubt all you want.
I own two weapons. A pump 20 gauge and an old wheel gun.
Pretty fast to get lead down range from the the moment I touch either one, hidden and unchambered.

If that has happened, shite has already hit the fan enough for all bets to be off.

Huh? That makes no fricking sense. I am impeccably safe. Look, you can be obtuse all you want. But an unloaded weapon treated as a loaded weapon is safer than a loaded one treated as a loaded one.

I've only read part of the thread, but this explains why you think so highly of your round chambering skills.
Do it under stress a few times then get back to me.
I hope you never have to utilize your firearm in a defensive situation because if you do you are in for a rude awakening.

While I agree, at least you have one hand to grab and fire if one is already in the pipe. Just food for thought.

It's a lot harder than you think when adrenaline is flowing and someone is fighting you, trust me.
