Deer Rifle Recommendations

Looking to buy a new complete set up. Would like the options to be lethal at 3-400 yards and the ability to shoot big game as well. Budget it 2.5-3K with suppressor included. Thinking Tika with Meopta scope but struggling on caliber. Leaning .308 but does anyone else have any other recommendations based on experience?

300 Win Mag or 7mm
Spend on glass as well.

Define Big Game - elk, moose, brown bear, etc ? ... or white tail, pigs, exotics ?
I'd lean towards a 6.5 or 7PRC, which are flat shooting and accurate. On the downside, factory ammo will be harder to find and more expensive than something chambered in .270, .308, or 7mag.

Short list your cartidge based on energy at distance you want. 400 yds for an elk (1500 ftlbs) - plenty of great off the shelf options. 7 mag, 300 wm, 7 PRC...
If your budget is $2500-3000 for just a rifle and supressor, you can get a really nice option for both. Even you're including Meopta glass, the Tikka is a great option.
I've have an older Weatherby ultralight in 280 Ackley, a 10 yr old custom build 6.5x284 Norma (similar but slightly less power than 6.5 PRC). I've been seriously considering selling the Norma for something in PRC. Ammo is half the price.

Tikka in 7mm PRC ~ $900 - 1000
CAT ODB / HUB / 718 $899
Leupold VX5 HD 3-15 x 44 $829
But if you plan to shoot deer at 400yd, you need to practice.
Practice a lot. That isn't an easy shot.

I was referring to Elk mainly. But 95% of the time will be utilized for whitetail and pigs.

.270, .280, .308, .30-06 are all very adequate.

Budget it 2.5-3K with suppressor
Tikka T3x in 6.5 manbun
SWFA 3-9
Sportsmatch rings
Nomad Ti OTB
Spend the rest on ammo
All this is the easy button. The only limitation with this setup is the driver out to about 900 yards if you ever get into that.

I went Tikka T3X Lite Roughtech chambered in 300 WSM last year and I'm very happy with it.

I’ve got this in a 6.5prc and I love it. Will get a suppressor eventually. Plenty good for Elk out to 500yds and light enough recoil that my 10 year old can shoot without flinching.

I have the Tikka 308 CTR and it's fantastic. Probably any suggestion here will work well. Practice for 400 yds will make more a difference then the rifle.

Have the same gun with a can on it. It’s a deadly mfer when I do my job as a shooter.

7PRC. Shoulder all rifles available and shoot them if possible. I’ve shot targets with a fellow club member’s Weatherby 307 chambered in 7PRC and it shoots great but I want to shoot others before owning one. Good luck and keep us posted on what you find.
