Royal Oak from Wal Mart is all I use in my BGE. Gets very hot, stays hot long, and doesn't produce a lot of ash.

Royal Oak actually makes the lump for BGE. It's taken off the exact same line. I will pick up a bag of Ozark Oak from time to time but usually just use Royal Oak lump.

The Weber Kettle Grill is the greatest thing on the planet. However, the time delay in starting a batch of charcoal, plus the mess and expense, makes me want a gas grill for speed. shite is ready in 5 minutes. So, get a small Weber kettle for when you have time to drink beers and cook chicken, ribs or anything that takes long slow BBQ method on Sunday afternoon, then get a small gas grill for searing some steaks or sausage fast, after getting home from work.

Set up time is not what I'm talking about and has nothing to do with it.

Whats the biggest difference in the two?

Gas is 2489375293459175198326574356189375 times easier than charcoal. Turn the gas on, press the button, and you're ready to rock. No charcoal, lighter fluid, let it burn down, frick with the dampers to get the temp right, start cooking, frick with dampers entire time, let it burn out, clean all the ashes out, find somewhere to dump the ashes, etc etc.

I prefer charcoal just because I have more fun cooking on charcoal, but a gas grill is much easier. You don't gain a whole lot of flavor from cooking on charcoal and your average beer drinking man will not notice the difference in a chicken cooked on gas vs one on charcoal.

$75 you can't beat it. We have a kamado joe at the fishing camp. I got so tired of fricking with it, I just went and bought another Weber.

As far as charcoal goes, try out a bag of Ozark Oak. By far the best I have ever used, and I have tried a lot. Good size pieces, lighs pretty easy, and burns long and clean. On the Dan side, I think it is like $10 for a 10 lb bag.

Thanks for the advice! Where might I find some Ozark Oak?
