My pops let me use his 30-06 for whitetail hunting, and he gave me 4 boxes of ammunition. I'm wondering if any of you had experience with these rounds, and if so, which one you would recommend. I'll go sight the rifle in, and I can do so with each round to see which gives the best groupings. Still interested in your opinions though.

1. Hornady American Whitetail 150 gr InterLock (looks like I would sight in at 200 yards and expect 1.8" high at 100 yards)

2. Federal Premium 150 gr Vital Shok Sierra Gameking BTSP (sight in at 100 yards and expect 3.3" drop at 200 yards)

3. Remington 180 gr Core-Lokt PSP (sight in at 200 yards and expect 2.1" high at 100 yards)

4. Remington 180 gr Accutip Boat Tail (box doesn't give sighting in info)

Thanks for any input!

2-4 are all great on whitetail. Use whatever your rifle shoots best, if all equal go with the vital shocks.

Not exactly but.
I’m currently shooting 180gr core lokt in a 300wm and it’s sub 1in at 100 and sub 2in at 200yd in a Christensen arms mesa and currently 4-4 from 65yd to 218yd with massive damage and zero tracking needed.
I have and shoot 150gr hornday whitetail in a 2
308 and it’s sub 1in at 100 in a tikka and has killed a ton.

No experience with the other in any caliber.

All of that is fine. The 180gr core lock is the only one I have direct experience with that I can remember. Works fine.

+1 for the core lokt.

If not pick up some Norma whitetail. Extremely repeatable.

#4, the Remington Accutip will have essentially the same ballistics as #3 the Core-Lokt except that it will shoot a little flatter due to it's ballistic coefficient. It should hit about .3066" higher at 200yards than the Core-Lokt.

Best friend will only hunt with the 150 gr InterLock. Use to shoot factory and now I load them for him. Does a great job.

Federal Premium 150 gr Vital Shok Sierra Gameking BTSP (sight in at 100 yards and expect 3.3" drop at 200 yards)

This is what I have shot for over 20 years and LOVE them……however…..they were recently discontinued as I believe Sierra stopped making that bullet so the cartridge went too. I am down to my last rack of them then making the switch to Norma Whitetail. I’ve shot some of them already and really like their performance so far

You should still be able to get the sierra game king. I load/ shoot those out of a few rifles and they do a great job . I shoot the 140 in 7mm08, 150 in 308, and the 165 in 3006. Also, speer makes a hot cor bullet which is reasonably priced and performs well on deer.

Shot the sierra gamekings growing up in .243 and 30-06, but 165gr in the 30-06, no real complaints.

I’m partial to nosler partitions now though, and I’ll never shoot hornady factory loads.

All. And then some.

Best consistent results are Federal blue box 150’s out of a Browning A-Bolt II.

It would be nice if you used a lead sled and took shots down range at 4 targets making 5 shot groups of each and posting the results.

I would do the Core Lokt though of those 4 to pick from.

1 & 2 are great whitetail loads if 25 meter zeroed out-to 100-200 meters.

All 4 are more than adequate, sight in with the tightest grouping of the 4. Hoping you get one!

I shoot the Remington 180 grain PSP Core-Lokt. I can get a 3/4 inch group at 100 yards if I shoot well. If you hit a deer in the vitals, it’s not going far.

Federal Premium is the best ammo of that list. Sight in for dead on at 200 yards.

I dont like the gameking too much. I used 165s in a .30-06 for a while and they exited in pieces. It was effective but if any of the deer had run off there wouldn't have been much blood trail. I imagine the 150's are probably even worse. The 165s were meat grenades.

Same on Hornady factory ammo. Been burnt by crappy QAQC.

I’ve pulled the trigger, firing pin struck the primer, no shot, fortunately I was at the range. Figured it was a one off, and it was for me, but I’ve known at least 5 people that had that same thing happen to them over the last 10-15 years, and pretty much all of those people have said they’ve heard it happen to others as well, all of them were on Hornady ammo, and a few were on some big deer, and with my luck, it’ll happen to me again but with the biggest deer of my life.

So I’ll never shoot Hornady factory ammo again.

ETA - had a friends dad that loads his own say that the primer was just barely “cocked” and it would probably shoot if you put it back in, which it did.
