Got one close to 80' about 10 yds from house, been waiting on it to fall. It has failed me storm after storm. Had 3 tree get launched next to it during Gustav, it only lost some limbs.
Not sure why Jester said what he did cause an oak tree has a fibrous root system and is the one that will fall- if it doesn't suck the moisture from beneath your foundation. I wouldn't want/have either close to my home.

I would say the quote is in the right neighborhood, get some more quotes but I would be surprised if someone licensed and insured (which you really want)would do it for less than 3000
house down the street from me had a crane topple over into the house while removing a tree several years ago

Was that Millers that quoted you? As far as "legit" arborists, I think they are pretty popular around town, but pricey. I know a few cats that would do it for cheap / beer, but with it being close to your house I doubt you would want some goons sawing on a pecan tree jeopardizing your crib.

Make sure they are insured.

The Facebook post I made as well suggests miller. I'd do it myself if I still lived in Waskom
just cut it down and set it in fire.

Just cut down a monstrous live oak on my property. Cost me 4700.

make sure the guy has insurance with a size able workman's compensation policy in it (at least $300,000). Make him show you a copy of the insurance policy. Call the guys insurance and confirm that he has paid it for the month. Tree service companies can't get any/much money off pecan wood so they do charge a lot for it. That being said I would never charge $4500 for it. $750-$1000 is what I'd expect to pay.

Diversify. Different meats like different smokes.
I like to actually crush up those bitter pecans and use then for smoking chicken.

Sounds right for a tree that size.

We had one taken down near our clinic. Was about $1100.

Both, WC policy will cover his injured workers, if he has no coverage and one of them falls out of a tree, guess who is getting served?

i understand this, but the biggest worry here is them dropping the tree on the house or in the pool, is it not? if he only has a comp policy then there's no recourse if it falls on the house. if he has a liability policy only it will pay for an injured worker.
