they don't call it a needmore for nothing. Fortunately, at my local academy, shells for both are usually in stock (can't say the same for 30.06 or .270);

My choice would be .308 just because that's what my granddaddy shot and I don't like new fangled rifle calibers.

I love my 6.5 Grendel AR for shots just like what the OP is throwing out. If I think I am gonna go past 200, then I will probably take out my bolt gun 7 Mag.

I've never had a deer go more than 10 yards shooting the 140 Berger VLDH. Most have anchored where they were standing. That said, I did see what you describe with the 143 Hornady ELDX.

.308. 6.5 Creedmoor is a target round and an obsolete one at that.

I had issues several times with the Hornady eldx. I lost 2 deer that i tracker over 750 yards, and was think I rushed my shot and just made poor shots. The third one ran about 75 yards, near perfect shot. Switched to the cheap ol core lokts and haven’t lost one since.

6.5 Creedmoor can cure Covid! Kills deer as soon as you take it out of the case! .308 for the win!

Get a .35 wheelin and never track a deer again.

.50 BMG and head shots cut down on the tracking significantly.

For what your describing. It will not matter. I have 6.5 and 308. Love them both. They both will do the job.

308 over the Cripplemore

FIL has a friend with deer tracking dogs. He says he always asks what gun people used when they shot the deer they called him to track. He said more than 50% of the time its the cripplemore
