That is probably partly because the 6.5 Creedmoor is a popular round. So many hunters have them, especially new hunters, and these hunters aren’t the greatest shots. Which leads to bad shots on deer. Not necessarily a symptom of the round but the shooter.

If the bullet is placed in the right spot I damn near doesn’t matter what the round is.

I went with 6.5 cm because I’m aging and my shoulder is jacked up.

Yea they probably bought the rifle from academy.

Ignorance is definitely a problem when it comes to firearms.

Got to love deer season,, three pages on 6.5 and you know it’s time for gumbo and deer camp.
For what your asking buy either one you can find bullets for right now if you don’t already have the bullets!!!
For the distance your talking shoot the heaviest for caliber bullet you can find make sure it’s bonded or a solid and neither you or the deer will be able to tell the difference if you make good shots.

Those of you bashing 6.5 clearly havent hunted enough with it. I've killed numerous different animals with it and some well over 200yds. Never tracked one more than 20yds. Majority fell in their tracks. The damage is devastating when placed right. One of my buddies hunts with his 300 WIN mag and is always hassling me about hunting with a smaller caliber. Whats funny is we are ALWAYS tracking his deer.

I would assume a head shot at 20 yards with any high-powered rifle would yield the same result.

I agree with your entire response. Not throwing shade at the 6.5 either. I have one that I’ve killed deer with and really like the high BC the round offers. Actually debating on bringing it to Montana for Muleys as a backup gun to my 7mag.

Your hate of some calibers is irrational.

It’s really not a hate for the caliber, but of the marketing. Its a good round, but I hate it anyway.

Forgive my ignorance on this but I was at a gun store and asked the guy behind the counter what made the 6.5 a popular caliber. He said straight up “the concept of the 6.5 rifle is to give you the stopping power of an AK47 with the accuracy of the AR15”. Now was this guy talking out of his arse or was there some truth to this?

That doesn’t sound like it at all. The concept is supposed to be high ballistic coefficient and low recoil at a medium velocity.

Yeah I didn’t really know what to think. Never looked at getting one and with this ammo shortage and 6.5 being the only thing I see on the shelves, it crossed my mind to pick one up.

I never trust salesman anyway.
