nope... it's a wive's tale..

I am not about to prove it wrong. The morning I flipped my boat was a day me and my buddy pretty much made about every bonehead decision you could make and still walk away upright. Honestly, we both should be dead but not dying made me realize how lucky I am and not to make the same mistakes twice. I will never again wear waders in a boat and will ALWAYS wear a life jacket.

Treading water in waders, cold water with a moving current, would be next to impossible. Panic would inevitably set in. Not a situation I would want to be in.

I am not going to get into this other than say current/waders don't mix. No different than a parachute in the wind.

I will also say I don't get on the water without a floatcoat (or life jacket) and a garmin inreach. Be safe everyone.

They are still actively searching on land and on the river.

From the specialist they pretty much know which rock jetty they hit. All the damage is to the underside of the boat and motor. No barge is mentioned at all.

The two life jackets, gas tank and several other items were found scattered over a pretty good distance on the river bank. It was not all together.

They did have a dog but it was the older boys dog, which is a 7 month old dog. Not the younger kids dog, which they are using for the search.

This is not on the Louisiana side of the river. They are searching south of Latourno to Togo Island. Which is south of Vicksburg.

I know one of the families very well. Please just keep praying for the boys, their families and friends and for all of the first responders and volunteers. The amount of people reaching out and giving support is amazing. Please just keep praying.

It's looking like this is not going to end well for the guys involved and their families.

I can't imagine the anxiety the family is going through at this time just not knowing for sure, but having it in their heads that things look pretty grim.

Sucks for sure, especially at this time of year so close to Christmas.

I really hope I'm wrong in my assumption.

That is why they are doing such an intense land search in a particular area.

It's tragic. Still no updates? And to the waders in water situation. That was interesting, I have always wondered. I grew up hunting in CENLA and went to hunt with a buddy in a blind in Irish Bayou once and they didn't wear wader since they pirogue to the blind and use a dog or ride out to get the ducks, but I only brought waders so I wore them in my pirogue to the blind and I was concerned about that. Ended up getting lost on the edge of the Pontchatrain after dark (just barely into the open water part and that enough was scary enough for me, I would not go out on the Miss River in a boat at night unless it was an absolute emergency.

Dang it not good. So they likely hit it at night then? Gotta hit something really hard to throw 2 people out of of a boat and it sound like they may have even flipped the boat? This must have had more than like a 25hp motor to go that fast unless they just hit it perfectly.

Gotcha. It rained a bit the night it happened and was freezing he next night. Tough conditions to be in the woods. If they avoided hypothermia the first night and had no major injuries, I believe they could make it out. Tough deal, for sure.

Wonder why they are not running a chopper at night with the FLIR. That should pick up buddy great in the dark especially in a swampy mess.

They know that they hit a jetty the foot on the motor was knocked off. They know it must have been right after dark because they were scouting for ducks as the season was not in yet.

It was rain that day and a pretty good rain that afternoon and the temp was around 33. Pretty tough conditions.

They have been flying thermal drones at night for the past several days.

Nothing was found today and the search will be concentrated on the river.

These poor families.

People please wear your life jacket. I do not care if you have been somewhere 100 times all it takes is one incident.

Bernie, is the assumption now that they didn’t make it up on dry land?

This story breaks my heart.

There are so many things to worry about when running a boat in that river especially at night. I used to run a 26' boat for work in SW pass in Venice. I was equipped with dual engines radar, gps, and a good radio. Each one of those pieces of equipment saved my life at one time.

I am sure those boys were in a hurry to get home and clipped a jetti while trying to hug the bank to avoid a barge. That is my biggest fear in the river.

The GPS map installed on our work boats had the jetties marked. I would highly suggest anyone running that river have a dedicated gps on the boat with a map that has the jetties.

This 100% cause if one ever tried to swim with waders on and filled with water will know as to why. Been there, done that.

And yes, prays go out to all.
