Actually, the Baton Rouge murder rate in 1992 was pretty bad. I believe it was higher than it is now.

I was speaking more about a kid getting abducted from LSU and whacked

True, it does seem like it was safer on campus in the early 90s, but maybe we are more aware now because of social media and 24-hour news reporting. Regardless, we live in scary times.

Spoilers

Gus and Captain Call hung Jake even though they knew he was too soft to have killed anyone himself and probably just got in over his head.

But those were the days...

Man y’all are bringing back some memories. Went to IMMS around same time. Before I got kicked out after 7th. Mostly remember playing tackle football over on the other side of the lunchroom every chance we got. Pretty sure that would not have been allowed these days. Remember the name but I’m gonna have to go back to the yearbook to find a pic

Shoot this motherfricker in the head and call it a day. It should have been done years ago.

What was IMMS, and how many Middle Schools did Zebbie go to? We weren't friends, but we had discussions. I'll never forget this kid walking into class the first time wearing a denim/leather jacket with a full Confederate Battle Flag patch on back. I was like "who is this crazy m'fer"? He was a smart, charismatic guy who could have been something beneficial to society, but rebelled against everything and anything.

Istrouma Middle Magnet School. It was a school you had to get accepted into and maintain certain grades. Mostly kids from Central, Greenwell springs, Sherwood Forrest and some from all over Baton Rouge. It was in the middle of the ghetto. Down by the intestate by the Exxon refinery. Weird to have a school that was probably 95% white in that area. All the kids usually spent at least an hour on the bus

It was a weird time where Central schools were terrible and BR was trying to desegregate schools by race. I lived off of Sherwood and had three middle schools within 5 miles of the house. But I would have went to Capitol Middle in North Baton Rouge cause they needed their share of white people at that school

It was so weird to have 4 schools on Sherwood Forest within a mile of eachother and, at that time, the population boom in that area, yet they bussed all the local kids from that area to NBR.

Yeah, same reason that some of us went to Westdale. Can't remember if it was 7th or 8th grade that he showed up at Westdale.

Desegregation is what killed East Baton Rouge Parish as a community. That's why you have Livingston and Ascension Parish busting at the seams right now. And the city of Central.

Yep, and to answer your question about Greg, last i heard, and it has been a long time, he was living in Philadelphia area

I think Greg lives in Austin now. Still involved big time with theatre. He and I were good friends growing up, but we've lost touch over the years.

Yep. I'm sure its just a coincidence that those 3 communities are all in the top 5 school systems in the state, huh?

Nah, go look at your yearbooks. I’ll give you that it might not have been 95% but it was closer to 95% than 50%

Dale Dwayne Craig and Zebbie were acquaintances of a friend of mine from Zachary. I gave them both a ride to Baton Rouge from Zachary about a week before they killed Gullett, because I was going that way and my bud asked me to give them a ride. Right after the news broke, he called me and told me that it was those two that I'd had in my car. Needless to say, we was trippin'.

Probably, I was one of the very few headbangers that had good grades and I was a bit of a stand out physically.

That sounds just like me. I probably would have been in the same crowd if it had been the same people at Zachary.

Cut my hair not long after graduating in 89 and quit looking like part of that scene.
