Dude I’ve watched a tee ball coach wearing batting gloves literally lift his players up off the ground and rotate them around the tee to strategically hit it to weaker players. This was in the “playoffs.”

Imagine having to deal with coaches and parents on drugs as a referee. I almost had to call the cops on a coach onetime. The parents on his team came and got him. He threatened me, a 15 year old girl calling the lines, and parents from another team. He chest bumped me and then came after me. I was literally 18 years old doing these fackers a favor reffing 10 year old soccer games. Dude ended up in rehab a week later. Hope is doing okay today but that's the type of shite refs have to take sometimes.

Generally, people take youth sports way too seriously. The adults tend to suck the fun out of it for all the kids involved. They took what is supposed to be a learning experience and turned it into a self-validation ordeal that has turned them into bitter twats who honestly believe their children are playing for a full ride at a D-1 school at the age of 5. It tends to bring the worst out of far too many people.

That’s not what happened here at all

This weekend was the championship game. They were down like 5 points going into the 4th. My kid and a few others were due up to play but the coach rolls out the best five again. After about 2 min in the 8 min quarter he subs for the kids that did not get the full two quarters. Then two min later he pulls those kids and puts the best five back in and the team still loses.

Did your kid get a full quarter PT in the first half? Did he get essentially at least two full quarters of PT in every other game this year?

If the answer to both of these are yes, you are wrong here. You should use it to teach your kid.

I don’t consider myself a hardass and didn’t get overly active in kids sports. But I have zero problem with this. Maybe I’m just a dick? The batting gloves are the biggest issue I see with this.

I'm still trying to figure that one out, or it's relevance to the situation.

Yes. Parents use rec league as a baby sitter. Kids come out give zero effort aside from breathing. Anyone with a pulse should want their kids to give some effort.

This guy should have sat down with his son and asked him how important it is to him to play the game. If it is that important to him challenge him to work hard and earn his spot. Pay for some camps, practice with him, etc...

If it isn't that important to him then tell him to stop crying.

exactly. the whole non competitive league BS doesnt even make sense. My 5 & 6 year tballers even understand winning and losing and who is good and who isnt.

i had a parent complain in the playoffs because in the last game i didnt have the playing time perfectly equal...after i had done it all year, just like coach in the OP. We lost the game anyways, but ill be damned if i was gonna cost the kids who had put in extra work the game just to be 100% fair with the bottom 8 kids on the team which half of didnt make it to half the practices.

magically the 4 to 5 best players on my tball team were the kids who showed up to every practice and game and hit and practiced at home with thier dad.

amazing how that works. amazing how being a good father tends to lead to kids excelling in all facets of life.

Yeah but it also gets people together. Families spend time together, strangers meet, relationships are developed and all without the help of a screen. It's some real human shite.

In a championship game, I’m gonna play the best players. This will happen on every team for the rest of the kids life.

It’s a tough lesson to learn but it’s life

It was amazing. The dude was also about 5’4” in each direction. Meanwhile our coach had a cup of coffee in the majors for the Rockies as a pitcher. Dude was now about 6’6” 260-270.

The parents on batting gloves’ team were all into his antics. Our coach just walks over to the fence and calmly says “your kids can still end up being good baseball players if they don’t win the Rec tee ball tournament

This is rec league the kids are suppose to have fun at first and learn. Knowing my kid had not played before I intentionally signed him up for something that was less competitive.

Moving into 11/12 yo I completely understand the better kids play the most.

They are kids.

The league does say they aspire to have fair playing time for all. It is rec league if I wanted a more competitive experience I would sign him up for that.

Then have your kid sit out when they play in tournaments, which are by nature, competitive.

while that is true, there is nothing wrong with getting the kids to hit to the weaker kids to try and win cause guess what....both teams have weak kids.

now the batting gloves....yea coach is a fricking douche nozzle for that.

but not hitting to the weak kids.
