TLDR...blah blah I don't care.
My kid was playing in rec league for BB (8-10 yr old). Nine kids on the team and mine is not one of the better ones. All season each kid got two quarters minimum.
This weekend was the championship game. They were down like 5 points going into the 4th. My kid and a few others were due up to play but the coach rolls out the best five again. After about 2 min in the 8 min quarter he subs for the kids that did not get the full two quarters. Then two min later he pulls those kids and puts the best five back in and the team still loses.
My kid is crying after the game, upset he didn't get the full playing time. I talk to the coach and he was saying its a competitive league and he was trying to win the game but appreciated my feedback.
This guy made a 9yo kid cry trying to win a rec league BB champ game. Even if you had won that doesn't make it right.

Seems like they should be old enough to understand the coach is playing to win.

Sorry your kid is bad at sports

tell your son to man up and get better

He’s an idiot, and no. My son was the best player, soccer, at that age and he sat the exact amount of time every other kid did. bullshite to act that way as a coach.

Unless there is a league rule about playing time you need to back off. Nothing wrong with coaches playing to win in elimination championship games.

I know this. Never had the making of a varsity athlete.

I hate to be the dick, but I agree with the coach. Tell your kid to get better. Worked for all my kids (3). They just worked harder and got better and played in the big games.
Cant cuddle them forever.

The "Life is Tough" lesson has been learned.

Your kid got to play all year.
It's the championship, stop being a pussy. If your kid wants to play when the games matter, tell him to get in the lab and put up jumpers.

You're going to get a lot of hardass answers about your kid not being good enough.
I just have questions. Was it previously established that it's a competitive league, because the mandated playing time suggest otherwise?
If the playing time wasn't mandated, but was done to give every kid a chance throughout the season, was it communicated ahead of time that the playing time would change for the championship?
Either way, I hope you used it as a learning opportunity and motivational opportunity.
ETA: I don't think the coach was wrong necessarily, just potentially a poor communicator.

Yeah, coach is gonna blow the championship game so your kid is happy. Sports is about teaching concepts like team vs individual needs. You should drive that in a bit more.

a championship game, your coach is trying to win. cut the guy some slack.

Coach is a dick head. I think 8-10 is 2nd-4th grade. Imo it shouldn't be about winning at that age. Middle school, they need to start to understand that not everyone gets to play. They're too young to learn and understand that in 2nd or 3rd grade imo.

Seems like there's a teachable moment in there somewhere.
But I wouldn't blame the coach for wanting to actually win the championship - but not so bad that he wouldn't put your loser of a kid in there at least for a couple minutes.

Similar thing happened to me back in the day in little league coach pitch. Coach got pissed at me and put me in right field. I just grabbed a six pack of cold ones and trotted out into right. Tell your son to man up
