Well, one they're not a business. They're a government agency.
Second, they're actually very efficient at what they're tasked to do. The only reason they lose money every year is they are required to fully fund their pension plan every year. No other government agency has that requirement that I'm aware of.

What?!? I assume you are referring to voter fraud via mail-in voting which is higher than in person, and substantially higher than in person when identification is required. There have already been issues with voters registrations being sent out to wrong addresses, more than one being sent out, and other issues that could cause issues and open the election to scrutiny if the majority of ballots are cast this way in November. Saying a system is broken and needs to be fixed isn't attempting to take someone's rights. Maybe apply some critical thinking and examine reasoning before pushing ignorant talking points void of reason.

The postal system should be exhibit A in the what would happen of the Government ran everything. Racially Biased test scores, protection of people that won't do their jobs. The list goes on.

how can you defund something that is self funded. If they operate at a loss it's only because congress won't let them set their own rates, they won't even allow them to break even.
This is a case of a government program the would work perfectly if the government would just quit screwing with it.
Post office is the equivalent of stealing your brothers toy, breaking it, then telling your parents it's your brother's fault because it's his toy.

I don't know about defunding, but there definitely needs to be some changes if funding is to continue. The inefficiency of the USPS are actually mind boggling. Here's an example that happened to me: I live in Pensacola, I moved from an apartment to a house about three miles from my apartment, after about a week, no forwarding mail, so I asked why. Here is what happens: I move and forward my mail, post office gets the mail in Pensacola and sees my address is forwarded. Rather than any process being done at the local post office, mail is put onto a truck, sent to Jacksonville, FL re-sorted, then sent to my new address in Pensacola. To this day that process makes no sense...

China has been using the US postal service to mail us seeds. It cost them less than $1 per package for postage. Raise their rates.

Yes, i know a postman that is a very hard worker. He'll tell you however that HALF the employees are just going through the motion till retirement. A quarter of the employees younger than 40 don't show up on a regular basis, constantly calling in. Many of the workers work overtime 56 days a week while MOST hardly put in an honest 40 hour week. There should be NO such thing as a unionized government worker.

The part people always forget is that the USPS is not meant to be profitable. It isn't a business model so much as it is a government service to ensure that all citizens have an available means of cost-efficient communication.
As far as privatization goes... if you think spam mail is bad now, go private and it gets 100x worse. I would also expect mail delivery to get slower - unless you are willing to pay extra for "expedited delivery" or a "USPS Prime" subscription.

I get tired of all the coupons and other worthless shite I get in the damned mailbox.
I don't give a damn about getting coupons from Jonnys Pizza, Harbor Freight or any of that other shite.
Every week I get something from Comcast business services saying how about a "free" review of your business needs.
Irritating.

I don't think most people are aware of how important the USPS is to a lot of businesses, particularly small businesses. My brother and I have an inherited small business we have run for the last 20 years and the USPS has been our primary shipper. In almost all cases for small packages, they are quicker and cheaper than UPS or FedEx. With over 150K packages shipped over that time two domestic packages were lost, one was ripped open with the contents lost and one was significantly delayed. Outside of those, we have had extremely good service.
The USPS is literally the backbone of shipping for many small businesses and would be the tipping point of profitability for many of them if the USPS was abolished.

until all of the other government agencies get an overall, their failing way of doing business will continue. People typically go there for a career because of the benefits and it is next to impossible to get fired. Most of them are over paid and have too many benefits. And if Amazon is making up alot of their overtime well damn it charge the most valued company in the world more money. There are some exceptions. Every time i walk into the local post office i feel like i am bothering them to do their job.

What’s the argument against this? I can’t think of any reason the government should prop up such a bloated and outdated organization. Privatizing it would easily trim the fat and make it more efficient .

I have had a similar experience with USPS and know a lot people in small businesses that are the same.
Losing USPS (or simply them "trying to be more like Fed EX" with similar pricing) would be a massive blow to my small business.
They certainly have some issues in terms of package tracking etc but the massive price difference much more than compensates for that.
Just based on how USPS price hikes have affected my sales (especially internationally) and considering how much lower those prices still are compared to UPS, Fed EX, DHL, I would imagine seeing a 50% decrease in my online sales without USPS.
The logic of the USPS filling a void as a loss-leader which helps so many small businesses and countless Americans in a large, spread out rural nation as well as access to affordable international shipping is as sound as that of interstate systems.
