My cousin married Richard Burton's first wife after he ran off with Liz Taylor.

Same cousin was also in Natalie Wood's last film, with Christopher Walken.

My last name is French, but the first relative of my last name was actually a runaway Italian that was shipped off to the Port of New Orleans in a barrel in order to protect himself from family members trying to kill him for his inheritance.

My ancestors on my mom's side was the baronet of the Calke Abbey in England.

LINK

My great great grandmother was a cousin to Gov. John McKeithen. We didn't know him, however.

LINK

One of my first ancestors on my dad's side to come to Louisiana holds a patent to a type of wood splitter. He also was involved in a case brought to the Supreme Court of Louisiana regarding the sale of slaves. From what i'm reading, it appears the case involves the purchasing of a slave in 1864/1867 (date remains unclear), the emancipation proclamation, the state convention of 1864, and whether or not the reimbursement of the slave was valid once the slaves were freed. I find this interesting considering the belief among my family is that the first of my name didn't arrive to Louisiana until the 1880's. But, it was mentioned that an ancestor made several trips between here and France. And something else, it appears the person my ancestor was in a lawsuit over, may have been his wife's father or brother.

ETA: i believe the SC ruled that the purchaser of said slave was not guaranteed a refund due to a changing of the law.

Here's two of his drawings from 1969 Sewerage and Water Board. These were hand drawn in pencil. That's his handwriting too on all the notes/title blocks.

Had a great uncle who looked at a farmhouse to rent. Owner rented to a newlywed couple instead. I guess great uncle really wanted the place because he murdered the young couple, buried them in the barn, and moved in.

He was sent up to Leavenworth. Got life, should have hanged.

One of my ancestors was a major general in the Continental Army during the American Revolution. I’m not going to say which one because I still have his last name.

One great grandfather a bunch of generations back surveyed a good portion of south Louisiana for the Spanish King. He was given a very big grant of land for his service. I still have a copy of original land survey from the 1790s.

Another more recent one was killed in the line of duty as an officer with the Jackson Police Department. Newspapers were brutal even back then, showed the gallows the convicted was hung for and the beaten and bloody face after he was arrested.

One was in the war of 1812 only to have most of his property seized by union troops during the civil war.

Also I traced my relatives back to France, where at least one was a Protestant living in 1600s France- he was accused of being a spy for the English by Luis XIV.
